2nd Cruise, 2nd trip to the naughty room

Just got home yesterday from a great week aboard the Legend. Same as last year on the Fantasy, I smuggled a flask size bottle of both rum and vodka in 2 separate pieces of luggage. Both times the rum was taken but the vodka made it through. My theory is that both times that bottle had a metal cap vs. the vodka that had a plastic cap. Anyway, the point of my story is that there were well over a hundred bottles of wine on the floor of the naughty room, many taped together with another bottle. I overheard one gentleman say he thought he was NOT to put them in his carry on, so I'm assuming that's what happened to a lot of folks. They actually took what was allowed, but just didn't carry it on correctly.

Naughty naughty! Just kidding. I know that when we cruised Carnival we were told that wine must be in your carry-on but we met many people who had the wine with their checked luggage and got away with it.

I guess it depends on who is working the Xray machines at the time.

There was so much wine there, I wish I would have thought to snap a pic. Wonder what happens to the booze that doesn't get claimed?

I was summoned there during September 2011 while on the Spirit for two bottles of Listerine.

Yep that's my theory exactly. NO metal gets put in my checked luggage.

Is that some sort of code for two bottles of booze? I'm trying to guess why anyone would need two bottle of mouthwash for a cruise and just can't imagine that kind of bad breath!

Last year on Carnival Glory we were at Guest Services to get some extra cabin keys. The guy next to us was complaining because the booze in his checked bag had been taken. The person dealing with him was very polite but clear about the policy, even showing him the written policy from the website. The guy crumpled the paper up and threw it at the assistant purser and stalked away. I apologized when he came over to wait on us. He was so appreciative that when we also asked for a deck of cards, he gave us two decks.:)

Thanks for asking! This was my exact thought, but was too afraid to look dumb by not knowing if it was sarcasm/secret code/joke!!

I got sent to the 'naughty room' for two unopened bottles of beer in my carryon, that were leftover from our stay at the Embassy the night before in Tampa..

How trivial can they be...:) Bad boy... :o

Wife and kid had a good laugh over it..:(

They don't say anything, you get a paper in your luggage telling you where to pick it up on the last day. They check the paper and you sign for the contraband, no big deal. There were at least a dozen people in line with me. There were things like fans, irons and power cords there as well as the booze. Saw a couple taped up 12 packs of "soda" too.

On our first cruise, I brought a surge protector so that we could plug in more than one thing at a time. It was in perfect shap, no chance of sparks or fire but they took it from my luggage. There was a note to come pick it up from one of the lounges on the day we got back to our home port(Mobile).

There were lots of people in line waiting to claim things that were confiscated. The funniest thing I saw was a case of beer, still in the original box. I can't believe someone thought that it would make it through to their cabin.

You cant take a fan? I need my white noise, lol.

Where is full list of prohibited items? Do they go through every piece of luggage??

I have taken a small fan with me for 3 cruises and it has never been taken.

One of the reasons I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS lock my luggage. If they want to rummage through it, I'm going to be present.

If your suitcase is UNLOCKED – they will go through it and leave you a letter stating that they did – and how to claim anything they took out.

If your suitcase is LOCKED – you will be called down to open the case up so they can go through it.

On my last cruise (Glory last Nov. sailing from Miami) I got called to the naughty room. I was really surprised, I don’t drink so I wasn’t smuggling anything. When they went through my suitcase – they pulled out a quart size plastic milk jug – that was full of coins I brought along to donate to the casino!! I forgot that I had put it there; I thought it was in my carryon.

This is what I was wondering after reading all of this, would they break into my luggage. My luggage is always locked.

Ditto. I have TSA compliment locks for flights, but I haven't seen TSA mentioned anywhere in the cruise papers. I DO trust TSA (mostly), I DO NOT trust the baggage handlers.

What's the HONEST number of locked luggage that needs to be unlocked?

2 bottles of Listerine for a cruise? Instead of the Naughty Room maybe they should have sent you to the Infirmary for an extreme case of halitosis.

What made them check the Listerine bottles, were they sealed? I have a bottle now soaking in soapy hot water for my April cruise.;)

One of the bottles was sealed & the bag was locked. The first thing that asked me was "do you have liquor in your bag?" . Evidently, they saw it when they x-rayed the bag and had the bag not been locked, would have gone through it.

I"m not sure I want them searching my bag.

not trying to explain away the posters use for 2 large bottles of mouthwash...

but we also travel legitamatley with one large dollar store brand of mouth wash we use it to sanitize our snorkel equipment, either our own or rentals. if they scuba or rental this equipment on a 4 port high snorkel/scuba cruise you could definatly go through 2 large bottles.

seriously!
