Cash or Card to play in Casino on Dawn Princess?

Recommended Posts

Another poster has prompted me to ask this question - can you take your $AU to the casino and get change for the machines - or do you have to use your Cabin Card? I don't mind paying for a little flutter - as the chances are slim of winning - but I don't want a % charge being taken on top of that - by Princess for the privilege of losing

Wow, I'd forgotten I posted that - and thanks for the replies - and thanks fer10 for re booting the thread - now I know I can take real money (usually about $10.00 - last of the big spenders) ;)

This better use of the card for playing is useful if you have unused obc and you can now take it out through the card without paying the 3% they used to charge.:):)

Yes, can be very handy to use up all the remaining OBC (will it ever happen for me ?).:D

It is nice when it does with shareholder and FCC and TA sometimes it is more than we use as we do not drink a lot and do private tours mostly.

if its the same you have to cash in your obc at the casino and pay the 3% but if you're getting money back does it really matter

Never having had OBC on our cruises (we usually jump in at the latest date and settle for a cheap deal) - what exactly is OBC - what can it be used for - how do they calculate it into your account? We have prepaid some money so that we have plenty for the final account - so how does the OBC provided by the cruise line work?

OBC is onboard credit from your TA or the cruise line and it can be used for anything you purchase on the ship including ships tour....on the 2nd day you can ask for a print out of your account or you can swipe it yourself near the reception where they have a machine like an ATM

dont pre pay too much money as you can always top it up if you are running low

Note that there are various types of OBC as well. Some are refundable and others are not. The ship is supposed to use the non-refundable OBC first (Usually OBC from the cruiseline offer as opposed to from the TA) but I ensure that it is all used one way or another.:D

I have found they do not care which on board ccredit they use as the account it just shown as a credit and then debits each day. When Dawn and Sun were cash only ion the casino to take out the extra money they would charge you 3% but now you load it on your card and cash out the card and no charges are made. It may only be $3 in the $100 but it is my money and I object.

i dont know if the Dawn Princess has changed over to the new system in the casino (they hadn't at the end of april) so if you wanted cash out from your card you are still charged the 3%

Ouch I thought they had done it the same time as the Sun Princess did and they have been with card for about 3 years

Every answer leads to another question :p So..............if I rock up with my trusty $10.00 note - can I put that in a machine to play or change for tokens or dollar coins or whatever it is they use in the machines?

Oh whoops - sorry - earlier posters have said notes can be used (I re read previous posts) :o

if they havent changed the pokies to the new system you can still use notes or dollar coins and it spits out cash if you win
