How does corkage fee work?

Just wondering how corkage fee works. Do they charge you as you walk on the ship and they see you have wine bottles?

 

RCI only charges if you take the bottle into the MDR. Didn't know what they do on NCL.

$15 corkage fee for every 750ml bottle at check-in. So if you're bringing a case of wine, that's $15 per bottle - which is especially nice for those cruises longer than 5 days.

 

I knew RCL recently started allowing wine on board - but it was only 2 bottles per cabin and they charged $25 corkage on-board but only if you had it in a dining room.
