Europe - phones?

Recommended Posts

No general Europe cruising forum, so asking here.

Am I better off trying to get an unlocked phone here, and buying a sim card in Europe? Or wait till I get to Europe & buying phone there?

Going to be in Italy, Croatia, France & Spain, mostly.

Anyone know costs of Sim cards/phones in Europe?

Hate to bring my own phone, and have to pay for all random incoming phone calls & texts.

I personally like to have the my phone set up before I leave, so I don't have to waste time there finding what I want. It may be a little more expensive, but I prefer the convenience (I've bought a phone locally, but I prefer going with everything I need). There are several US companies that sell basic unlocked phones and international SIM cards that will work in multiple countries. Telestial, RoamSimple, GoSim and OneSimCard are just a few of the options.....check out the costs (including shipping), but I think it's worthwhile.

I have an unlocked iPhone, and I'll be buying a Telestial card for my upcoming post-cruise stay in Portugal.
