Midnight Buffet?

Becky - on our recent cruise on the Victory there was a late night buffet put out everynight at the back of the Lido restaurant by the pool. One night of the cruise was the Grand Gala Midnight Buffet - the one with all the ice carvings and fancy fruit and vegetable carvings and pate and such. The other nights was just a nice spread of cold meat and cheese, salads, and desserts.

Midnight Buffets are awesome, a beautiful display of culinary arts.

Unfortunetly, for me (can't speak for my DH) the Midnight Buffet is a great time for photos and nothing else. We have always requested late dinner seating so by then I am just too full.

Of course, I always manage at least one (or 2) chocolate covered strawberries.

As Kathy correctly noted above, the midnight buffets ar enow what Carnival calls late night snack. You basically can have burgers, fries, a sandwich or two and some dessert. This is perfectly Ok with me, but the quality of the food on teh Triumph last month was poor at best. The bread and buns were stale and the food appeard old and leftover. Room service might be a better bet for a quick snack.

Becky;

I feel the same way you do. My hubby and I actually requested the early seating on our first cruise so that we could be hungry for the midnight buffet. We were spoiled on the Victory. Every night was a theme. One was caribbean the other jerk one night was ribs it was more than lunch meats for us but I think that was all a thing of the past. No one mentions anything so I think they have sort of done away with it. Which really disapoints me. Now I'll have to order more room service.

We've always done late seating or eaten so late on PC that we really were not hungry for a buffet.

On our cruises, it seems there really wasn't a emphasis on late night buffets. I wonder if they are slipping away.

It does seem that there is one 'big buffet' on every cruise that is worth a few pictures, whether it is a chocolate extravangza or a buffet with birds made out of yams...however I've never eaten at one.

I will say that our NCL ship, there was an awesome tiny buffet in the casino, almost nightly. It had little sandwiches, fresh fruit & veggies and pastries. Perfect for a snack and a nice little treat while you were losing your shirt...

I agree with the other posters. The Grand Gala buffet is more for show than for eating.

The night we left Cozumel there was a Mexican buffet and party on the Lido deck. I felt that was better than the Grand Gala.

On the Miracle this past february I discovered Chicken wings at the buffet at midnight. these were there almsot every singel night -- Out of all my cruises this last one is when I made use of a midnight buffet every siongle night. (on the other cruises I was either too tired or too full)

The midnight grand buffet on our cruise had a huge line just to look and take pictures than you had to line up in another huge line to eat it. I didn't bother lining up the second time. It was something to see though.

What food is usually found at the gala buffet ?

the gala buffet is the grand buffet with fancy desserts. Its the only place I can find the Choc decadence dessert now. There was some food there but I never heard of it so I didnt try anything. You will line up to take pictures of the buffet for about half an hour then stand back in line to eat the stuff...lol

I sure hope they still have those wings when we sail on the Miracle in March. I don't really care if there is a big buffet at night, as long as I can get something if I'm hungry and since there's always pizza and room service, that's OK with me. I think I'm even going to pass on the grand gala buffet this time too. I've seen 3 of them now and they're all the same. I didn't even like anything I tried at the grand buffet the Pride. I'm sure I could have gone back and found something I liked but I wasn't about to stand in that line again.

I have the same problem, the midnight buffet sounds wonderful in theory, but I just cannot eat another bite by then (and breakfast is only 7 hours away!!)

The midnight buffets (aside from the Grand Gala Buffet) changed a bit from when I was on the Paradise in August to when we sailed the Miracle a few weeks ago.

Every night, they featured the same items...the ones I remember are salmon remoulade, steak fries, vegetables tempura, chicken wings, and a bbq pork sandwich, along with the cereals/fruits/desserts. They also had two, I think, soups and some salads and breads. And of course, the 24 hr. pizza and ice cream.

I can get something if I'm hungry .

Now this is a poll I would love to see--- does anyone get hungry at all during a cruise???

The Miracle is the most I have ever eaten on a cruise I ate every breakfast, every lunch every dinner, every buffet. and the best part was I only gained 3 pounds. lol
