msmathteacher Posted June 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2005 What is involved in getting from the train to the ship in Seward? Can one walk it with rolling bags? Are there taxis? Thanks!
newtocc Posted June 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2005 I've never traveled with rolling bags, the old bag I travel with has to walk, sorry I couldn't help!
msmathteacher Posted June 12, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted June 12, 2005 How difficult is the walk for your bag?
joramrose Posted June 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2005 it is about 3/4 of a mile from the pier, along some pretty rough roads. Yes, there are taxis. Not too expensive. love joan
Tricia724 Posted June 12, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Grab a cab....only a few bucks and chances are you'll meet someone really interesting. We had a great woman driver who gave us a lot of insight into living in Alaska in the few minutes that it took us to get to the ship. Also, the layout of that dock in Seward is such that it would be a little awkward trying to get there yourself.
Gaile Posted June 12, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2005 If you don't have a transfer a cab is the best way to go. Believe me, they are there waiting for you and it wasn't expensive.
flashdog_1 Posted June 22, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 22, 2005 If you have booked air/cruise with celebrity they will provide you bus or train transportation from Anchorage on the Seward Highway, one of the National Scenic Byways. Sounds beautiful! If you are not planning to book air with them, your travel agent can still get you a transfer which means they will take you to the dock. These July departures have some fantastically low air fares (mine from Atlanta is $300! yes, round trip out of Vancouver, with transfer from the Anchorage airport to the bus/train to Seward, and from ship to the airport there, too). they have to be losing money! Have you told your teenagers there is dog sledding, either on snow for a bunch of money, or on a summer mushers camp (a training camp) with cart ride outside Seward, or from Skagway thru the Dyea area, the base of the Klondike trail which includes a narrated tour of Skagway for $110? How about a helicopter flight to a glacier landing? Whale watching in Icy Strait Point? I think the Duck amphibious land/sea trip will be very much fun in Ketchikan. ladysail2 Posted June 23, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2005 :p Yup...there are old bags on every cruise...cute one, newtocc! MsTeacher.....it would be more comfortable to take a cab...it cost me $5 and well worth it. There is alot of gravel along the way and a lack of sidewalks. Enjoy your cruise!
