Salacia I hope you don't mind, but I had to use
Your quote for my new post.
Thank you Cunard for making the
Ocean liner of 2004 QM2 a retired , out of reach, a glorified yacht
The S/S Queen Elizabeth has surpassed the QM2
In popularity here on cruise credit:confused:

O
Hi fellow Cunarders:
My January 2014 "The Cunarder" arrived today.
Since turq is apparently readying herself for lining up with a buzzer to wait 15 minutes for a table, uncaring service and mediocre food ---- the magic of NCL "free style dining"--- plus shorts, sweats and cutoffs on "formal nights"

I'll pass along the scheduled Cunard events from the Cunarder mentioned

1 In honor of the 175th anniversary of Mr Cunards first scheduled Brittania TA all three Queens will be returning to the Mersey and Liverpool on 25 May 2015. Details of where they go from there to be announced

2 On July 4, exactlly 175 years to the day, the "retired out of reach glorified yacht" Queen Mary 2 will depart from Liverpool and retrace the steps of the Brittania to Halifax and then Boston. Edited by seavoyager6

And people complain that Cunard's schedule is too predicable!

There was a time when the QM2 had winter cruises from NY
I know because I booked at least 4
There was more transatlantic service
From April.
There was a lot less Norway and northern
Europe cruises in the middle of transatlantic
Service
NCL Breakaway services NY and sails to
Bermuda , Bahamas and Caribbean with a consistent
Schedule ( this was the plan of the QM2)
The ship is beautiful ! Great restaurants
Buffet is amazing. High tech. And there is an upper class
Like the Grilles. And private deck , hot tubs bAr
And pool
And no flying:)
Don't knock it unless you tried it:eek: Edited by turquoise 6

Tried Norwegian once. That was more than enough.

Enjoy it. My guess is QM2 will survive, nevertheless..

But ... I am sure you know that there are no Cunard cruises from NY to the Bahamas or the Bermudas, but hundreds if not thousands of them are offered by other cruise lines in 2014 and 2015 .... , including the ugly Breakaway

Happy sailing :)!
None! There is one 28 day rt from New York
In May 2014 : it goes to Hamburg & Southampton twice and around
Norway
You and the other 10 average passengers on the typical B2B TA from Brooklyn (out of 6500) should show your anger by waiting in a line with a buzzer for "free style" dining on Norwegian

Have a wonderful time
None! There is one 28 day rt from New York
In May 2014 : it goes to Hamburg & Southampton twice and around
Norway
I've actually built a spreadsheet showing the turnaround times between successive TAs in 2014 to analyze this. Starting from New York the minimum time between the eastbound and the westbound is four days, in June, August/September and September/October, for a total journey time of 18 or 19 days since some of them involve 8-day TAs. The longest journey involving successive TAs is in November/December, when two seven-day TAs sandwich a four-day Autumn Escape to Le Havre and Zeebrugge, a 12-day Iberia and Canary islands cruise and a three-day Christmas markets cruise to Zeebrugge, for a total journey time of 33 days.

The "sweet spot" for time between TAs for me would be seven or eight days, and QM2 does this twice in 2014, once in July and once in October-November for a 22-day journey each time. I'd get off the ship and tour England or go to Paris for the 8-day turnaround period. Unfortunately the budget this year won't support it unless TAs go on fire sale. :)
