SadieN Posted April 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Better to take a taxi, shuttle or ship's tour. An hour on a good traffic day by car. Since you will be in port on a Wednesday be aware that the freeways are always busy going thru downtown. Plan on atleast 3 hours by freeway. How long are you in port? It will take at least 3 hours one way (6 hours RT) to get there by public transportation as it's almost 40 miles away. *** Need to walk to the LADOT Commuter Express bus to get to the the Long Beach Transit Mall ($1.50) http://www.ladottransit.com/comexp/routes/142/142.php confirm that you can pay with cash onboard Buy a TAP card ($1.00) Then take the Blue Line to the 7th Street Transit Center. ($1.50) Get on the Red or Purple Line to Union Station ($1.50) Go to Bathroom as it's the only place. www.metro.com Take the Antelope Valley Line to the Burbank Station ($6.00) http://www.metrolinktrains.com/schedules/line/name/Antelope%20Valley/service_id/1142.html Walk 22 minutes to the studios http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&f=d&saddr=Burbank Station+near+90012&daddr=3400 W. Riverside Dr. Burbank, CA 91505&date=04/11/2013&time=11:20am&dirflg=r The Blue Line goes through some of the toughest neighborhoods in LA-SouthCentral, Watts, Compton. It also has one of the highest accident rates. Last time we took it we had to get off several stops before the Transit Mall. It was closed. We think somebody walked in front of the train. The other day the line was closed down for a few hours. ********** If you do not want to do that, but stay local The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is a wonderful place to spend the day. aquariumofpacific.org public transportation or take a taxi taxifarefinder.com Need to walk to the LADOT Commuter Express bus to get to the the Long Beach Transit Mall ($1.50) http://www.ladottransit.com/comexp/routes/142/142.php confirm that you can pay with cash onboard Free Passport bus to the Aquarium http://www.lbtransit.com/services/passport.aspx (The bus also goes past a Walmart with an Albertson's supermarket and CVS across the street.) LJJQ Posted April 6, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Thanks for the info! I thought the trip by public transit would take awhile but 2.5 hours each way is too much! I was stationed at Long Beach Naval Shipyard in 60's and we could take bus from downtown Long Beach to Disneyland in just one hour. New system is ridiculous ! Rickey 88 Posted April 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Thanks for the info! I thought the trip by public transit would take awhile but 2.5 hours each way is too much! I was stationed at Long Beach Naval Shipyard in 60's and we could take bus from downtown Long Beach to Disneyland in just one hour. New system is ridiculous ! Sorry that you're going to be disappointed, but a lot of folks from other parts of the country are unaware of the size of Los Angeles and its many freeways. Our public transport system is a joke and the freeways continue to be clogged, even in the "off" hours. A cab or limo might make better time, but that would be expensive each way considering you need to be back on your ship later in the day.... LJJQ Posted April 13, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Rickey88 The LA metro area had a better transit system in the 60's but since the subway was put in seems to have gotten worse. I was able back then to take a bus from downtown Long Beach to Disneyland. The trip normally took an hour. Today based on transit web site it would take nearly 2.5 hours with transfers. Do not see this as improving transportation !
