can we go to the aquarium/dig/casino at Atlantis on our own? and if so anyone know the price of these?

I am trying to figure out my day in Nassau we will be there from 8-5(idk if that means island time or ship time) this is my first cruise so dont know the ins & outs yet.

-want to visit fort fincastle & the queens stairs <--is this walkable from port?

-want to visit Atlantis - aquarium/dig/casino <--price of a taxi/and enterance for these things?

-is there a free beach anywhere near any of these places - just to walk and explore?

-want to visit Senor Frogs <-- is this right at port?

-want to visit the straw market <--is this right at port?

Is all the above do able in the time frame we are in port - and being back on board well before the ship leaves?

just wanting to grab taxis and do things on our own - the excursions through carnival seem a bit on the higher side of the price range.

any information would be greatly apperciated

I also posted on the ports of call board - just hoping to get a quicker response here.

thanks yall :)

If I were you I would go to the Ports of Call section and post this question on the Bahama board.

There is a local lady, ScubaGirl, who gives wonderful and accurate information (both good & bad). She is a wealth of information.......you can always trust her advice

-want to visit fort fincastle & the queens stairs <--is this walkable from port? Yes, easily walkable.

-is there a free beach anywhere near any of these places - just to walk and explore? Junkanoo Beach is near the port. Walkable.

-want to visit Senor Frogs <-- is this right at port? Yes, very close.

-want to visit the straw market <--is this right at port? Yes, right before Senor Frogs

Is all the above do able in the time frame we are in port - and being back on board well before the ship leaves?

Should be, depending on how long you spend at each spot.

Have fun!

Last time we were in Nassau (in 2011), taxi fare to Atlantis was $4 pp in a shared van. You can't see The Dig without paying for it, unfortunately. The only parts of Atlantis that are "free" are the shops (including the Marina Village, which is nice to walk around), and the Casino.

can we go to the aquarium/dig/casino at Atlantis on our own? and if so anyone know the price of these? Atlantis is on Paradise Island.. a $4pp cab ride pp. The DIGS/Aquarium is $40pp. Casino is free, but is adults only. If you have kids with you, they won't be allowed in the casino area. Depending on traffic, the taxi can take anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes. If you live in a town with a decent aquarium, you will be disappointed. This is not a world class aquarium. Not worth the $40pp. If you choose NOT to pay for an aquarium pass, you will not be allowed in the Atlantis with the exception of the casino... no lobbies, no balconies, no grounds or gardens. It's off limits to non-guests or ticketholders.

I am trying to figure out my day in Nassau we will be there from 8-5(idk if that means island time or ship time) this is my first cruise so dont know the ins & outs yet. If you are leaving from the east coast (fla, baltimore, NY, then ship time and island time is the same. Eastern Standard Time).

-want to visit fort fincastle & the queens stairs <--is this walkable from port? Yes it's walkable, but it IS uphill. Takes about 20 minutes from the port exit. There's a nice walking tour (free) linked to my website at: www.bahamas-treasures.com The tour is on the left/ bottom link. It includes these 2 points of interest.

-want to visit Atlantis - aquarium/dig/casino <--price of a taxi/and enterance for these things? Answered Above

-is there a free beach anywhere near any of these places - just to walk and explore? Theres a free beach just 10 minutes outside of downtown nassau called Junkanoo Beach.. just follow the wharf (or bay street) west around the Hilton Hotel to the free public beach.. there's concession stands, tiki bar and restrooms. There are signs showing the way.

-want to visit Senor Frogs <-- is this right at port?

Senor frogs is 5 minutes from port at the end of the wharf. You'll pass it as you head to the beach. Personally, I'd pass on this.. there are more interesting and better places to eat and drink in nassau.. no need for an overpriced american franchise that over salts thier food to sell drinks. YUCK. Try Sharkeys, Olives, Via Caffe, Casablanca, 25 North or any of the hundreds of cafe's and eateries in the area.

-want to visit the straw market <--is this right at port? It's just steps away from port.. you'll pass it going to the beach.

Is all the above do able in the time frame we are in port - and being back on board well before the ship leaves?

just wanting to grab taxis and do things on our own - the excursions through carnival seem a bit on the higher side of the price range.

Besides Atlantis, you won't need a cab.. everything you mentioned is within walking distance. there's a map at the end of the link I posted. Check it out. Everything will be within your line of sight.. you will easily be able to judge your time and distance (except Atlantis)

I just got off the Carnival Fantasy yesterday. While in Nassau on Monday we did an excursion thru Carnival. Without an excursion you will not beable to see the digs, pools, water park etc. Staff is everywhere checking wrist bands.

Approx. 15 minute taxi drive the Atlantis.

We paid for the "Atlantis aquamarine" which included a 20 minute tour thru out the grounds then you were free to walk around and enjoy the waterparks, digs etc. Also included a lunch tickets. We had fish and chips along with a dt coke. Without the free coupon the cost would have been $13 for fish and chips and $3.50 for a can of dt coke.

We were dropped off at 9:00 and stayed until about 3:00.

I would have to say Atlantis was the highlite of our cruise.

In Nassau the straw market and Senor Frogs is right beside where the ship docks. Are you by chance going to Freeport? they also have a senor frogs.

The beauty of the walking tour is that you can do as much or as little as you like. Several points of interests are close enough to the port.
