Premier Parking

Has anyone ever used Premier Parking for Cape Liberty. Seems to have the following advantages:

- About $40 cheaper than parking at the Port

- No problems with overspray on your car

- Provide shuttle which seems to be less hassle dropping off luggage

Directions they give from the South suggests that you get off NJ turnpike at Exit 9, take 278 east and 440 North to parking. Directions to Port Liberty suggest that you get off NJ turnpike at Exit 14A. I am not familiar with northern NJ roads. Does anyone see any issues with these directions? My general feeling is that the less time I spend on the NJ turnpike the better off I am. Seems like there is a major accident and tie-up almost every day.

Premier parking has been discussed a lot on this forum. Please read http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1815190&highlight=premier for one of those discussions. There are some serious concerns about the operation.

How many days is your cruise? What day of the week do you sail?

The directions to get off the NJ Turnpike take you across Outerbridge Crossing and through Staten Island. You pay a $13 bridge toll and save some money on NJ Turnpike tolls. Personally, I'd just go to Exit 14A. The NJ Turnpike is 6 lanes above exit 9 whereas route 440 is two lanes. The directions you listed are also not complete. From exit 9 you take 287 to 440 to 278 to 440.

skip it...

first, the hassle is the same shuttle or not...

second, no overspray reported lately...

third..if you MUST park off site, use SNAP airport parking...they are 1) properly licensed/insured as they pick up AT EWR--commercial services can't do this unless they have their ducks in a row...2) an actual GARAGE...and 3) nice!! i used them....check the cape liberty 411 thread here for details and pix...it was 11.99/day plus tax...

the wait to get picked up was long..BUT the traffic/construction was bad...so it wasn't there fault.

i took one for the team on my April EX cruise and tried SNAP..i will NOT NOT use premier...they slap small, magnetic signs on vans that may or may not be

insured properly either....grrr

I understand saving money, but you have to weigh safety over money....we do a lot of due diligence before we suggest places....and there are reasons WHY we steer people away...

the SEARCH function here does work...

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will stick with the lot at Cape Liberty.

Saving $40 was not my primary motivation. I lose more than that every night in the Casino. My luck is so bad that I take my losses as a charity deduction on my income tax. In my case it is not gambling. Gambling indicates you actually have a chance to win. I have no chance.

Seriously, the overspray and dropoff were my primary reasons for considering offsite parking. Having the owner pay to have my car repaired is nice but the hassle would be more than I want to think about. Last time we left from Bayonne we stayed at a hotel overnight (insurance on winter weather), left our car at the hotel and took a van to the port. Dropoff and pickup were really easy compared to trying to do it and park your car.

I understand how you drop your luggage off at the port but how do you pick it up. Do you have to get your car and then drive back to get your luggage? This would be a major hassle.

It depends on where you park. Look at the satellite map of the port. There are two parts to the parking - one is in the middle of the port access road and the other is across the road towards the ship at the end of the entrance tent. If you drive in and pay, go halfway through the first lot and make a left towards the gap in the fence that lets you cross the access road to the other side. There is always a guy there directing traffic and he will let you across. The other side has all the handicapped parking, but it also has regular parking as well.

When you dock coming back you can get a porter to take you at least to the end of the tent if not all the way to your car. If you can get your luggage to the end of the tent, you can get your car and swing by to pick it up.
