When I want to see "the rest of the world" I take a land vacation. For me, a few hours In port doesn't give me enough of an experience of the place. I cruise for the ship, sunshine and convenience of a close point of departure, not the ports. I stayed in Aruba for a week once, and couldn't understand how all the cruisers jammed into Carlos and Charlie's and walking around the part of Oranjestad near the ship could say they knew anything about Aruba? Even more so if you are talking about European destinations.
