Hi! I remember seeing a sort of "tell all" book in one of the shops on Century that was supposed to be a sort of behind the scenes look at life on a cruise ship. But, since I can't remember the name, I guess I am no help at all [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif[/img] I intended to go back and buy it and just never got around to it. I have chatted with Joyce via e-mail about her book. I haven't read it yet, but I can tell you that it is available on all Celebrity ships in the gift shops. It's also available through her website, which you can search for on the web, since I don't have it at hand.
She is a fascinating woman...well-traveled and articulate.
I look forward to reading her book on my next cruise.

I also read the book. I enjoyed it. It was about life at sea. It gives her view point and her husband's point of view on live at sea. Her husband was a Celebrity Captain.

Joyce is not a professional writer. But as a person she is great, very down to earth. So when you read the book keep that in mind. I also, found that when the Captain commented his personality came out in the book. If you can get him to talk (in english) you find him also very down to earth. He is very concerned with the safety of the people on his ship as well as the ship, this is on his mind 100% of the time even when he is in his quarters.

Thank you for your help. I actually ordered the book about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and it hasn't arrived. I wanted to check on the status but I had lost the link. The check must of cleared by now, so I am hopefull it didn't get lost somewhere.

I thought it would make entertaining reading on the plane or on the cabin balcony.

Joyce is a wonderful and very interesting person. Her book dipicts life aboard a cruise ship as seen through her & her husbands eyes and experiences. They both have been on ships for years. Her husband, Captain Iordanis is still a Celebrity captain and is currently in charge of the Millennium. He was going to retire but decided to stay for atleast one more year. Joyce and their son crused with him on a full time bases till fall of last year and are now residing in Greece, due to the fact that it was time for their son to go to school. However, she loves the ship life and sails with her husband and son during school holidays.

In my opinion her book is worth reading and has some very intertaining stories. [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img]

I loved her book and bought copies for a few friends and family. It is a good read. Especially when you are on the ship laying by the pool, or on the plane home.

I also have read the book and enjoyed it. It shows what goes on behind the scenes - that we as passengers never know about.

I'm lucky to have Joyce and Captain Adamidis as friends - we have sailed with them several times and always look forward to it.

I enjoyed Joyce Gleeson-Adamidis's book and enjoyed meeting her on my first Celebrity cruise on Millennium. She gave a talk and I bought the book and didn't put it down. It is such a fun read on a cruise. I thought that she should contact Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and film, "If I were not upon the Big Fat Greek Sea" Joyce liked that one. This is not literature, but a journal of an insider giving you a look at life on a cruise ship that the average person never sees. If you didn't love cruising, you wouldn't be reading this. Get the book and read it, it's fun. After all, Harris needs an education.

It is a great read but probably not for everybody. Lets just say its a little explicit and leave it that.

That being said, it does give a great insight to what the Social Hostess and Captain actually do. It also does a good job in describing how the crew interacts with themselves and the passengers.

We've never met Joyce (just missed once) but have had several email conversations with her which were delightful.
