Francesco Posted June 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2013 If you need an economical sight-seeing tour of Santorini and Oia using a public bus, it is quite easy to do. This video shows the bus stop and what you see along the way to Oia. Enjoy the great views. Rare Hlitner Posted June 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2013 We have taken various buses on Santorini (including the bus between Fira and Oia) and would have to add a caveat. If you happen to be on Santorini with a lot of cruise passengers, it is possible that the Oia-Fira bus will be totally full leaving you standing on the road. Personally, we think that for those that want to explore the island outside of Fira and Oia.....a rental car makes the most sense. There are numerous inexpensive rental car companies in Fira, and driving on the island is quite easy. A big issue with using the various public bus lines to see the island are the frequency of the buses. You can hop off at one particular place and then have to wait 1 1/2 hours for the next bus. And its difficult to get to some areas (such as Red Beach) using buses. Hank

Holly2 Posted June 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2013 We were on the Splendour also. Great itinerary. Sunset was after we left about 8:35 but could watch from deck. For a small group, cabs work well. We took cable car then cab to Oia, another cab to black sand beach and bu s service back to cable car. At least when we were in port, almost no line for cable car when we left ( we were on first tender after excursions), but lines for cable car and tenders coming back. Got back to ship around 7. A great day!

The main taxi parking area in Fira is located near the bus station and is about a 10 min walk from the top cable car station. It can be hard to get a taxi from Oia back to Fira...so its wise to ask you taxi (when going to Oia) if he will return at a certain time. Of course the alternative is to simply take the bus (a lot cheaper then the taxi). Another alternative is to simply rent a car. A taxi to Oia will cost you about 25 Euros and you would probably pay another 25 Euros to get back. You can rent a car for the entire day for less then 40 Euros.... and then use that car to explore a lot more then just Oia. Hank
