music in the Carnival "clubs"

My last cruise (April), I spent very little time in the dance club. Most times I walked by, it was usually rap/hip hop, which I don't care for. Sometimes, they were playing songs that were more along the lines of top 40. But no, I never heard anything along the lines of dubstep. The teenagers are loving dubstep (as I have been at some of their dances on land), and it is much better than rap, but I'm not sure how long it will take for Carnival to catch up.

It depends on the ship, and mostly the DJ!!!!! The DJ's often have their own music selection on their MacBooks, other laptops, or iPods, etc. in order to give a selection of limited or unlimited music according to "their" taste, and not necessarily what the cruisers/partiers/dancers want to hear. Every cruise line and ship that I have been on, the DJ usually has a music request clipboard/sheet next to the booth for those requested a specific type of music. A lot of the music now in clubs is mixed, so they'll combine different songs, with beats or other tracks that might or might not go with the song. On the Miracle and Pride, which I sailed on in the last year, the DJ's mainly played the top 25 of the hip hop, r&b, billboard or pop charts. None of the songs to my memory were played straight, but were mixed or scratched with other songs, which is the way that most clubs and the radios do it also. Some songs were repeated so often that I would just stop in for a moment, or leave, and head to the casino for a break. As a note, most of the nights the dance floor was covered with those in the 18-25 age range, with a few of us old heads mixed in, but we were definitely outnumbered. lol

As a note, if you're looking for EDM, my suggestion fro experience is to make contact with the DJ, and see if he has what your looking for. Due to licensing rights, they will not accept any music from passengers to play onboard. So you can't give them your playlist, or allow them to connect and aux cord, etc, to your phone or music player in order to play through the ships system.

On the Breeze they had some nights with different types of music. The live band venue is where we did our dancing.

As noted above, the clubs do have either live bands, or play a specific type of music (salsa, country, reggae, 80's music, 90's music, or boy band and girl band) music from when the club first opens until around 11 or so, which is when it first starts to get what is considered busy.

sjccruiser....excellent explanation...have you ever been on a private music full charter cruise? (i.e. Soul Train, Capital Jazz SuperCruise, Tom Joyner''s Fantastic Voyage)...they all bring guests dj's (Kid Capri, Biz Markie , Doug E. Fresh etc) who spin music that represents the theme of the cruise nights so the clubs are packed every night, all night

We also have several guests house party bands that play all week and at the beach party on the private islands

Very often , the promoter works with the CD to identify members of the crew who are really good jazz musicians and invite them to be part of the band that backs up the featured artists who are performing. One year Boney James was performing and for the life of me I kept looking at the trumpet player that did a short solo with Boney...two days later it dawned on me who he was..my cabin attendant's assistant

NO EDM!!!

ERR!!!

We were just on the sensation for my bachelorette party last week. We requested EDM songs every night, never played. Even the top 40 EDM songs did not play. The club was advertised as "Top 40" but only played hip hop. I was sad :(

What the heck is EDM????

I think that the EDM folks are still somewhat in the 16-35 year old range. So EDM would not be played all the time in the clubs. However, I have heard it in some of the Older Camp Carnival groups. (O2?)

the dj on the sensation told me that it was a license issue. he said it was hard to get for some songs. i don't know how true that is. i just wanted him to play some up to date music and some swing out music. wait all night to hear a song i requested before asking the dj about it and that's when he told me about the license.

They sell out stadiums :)

So 2 guys playing electronic music, no band members, no "live" music... I see the crowds love it and I can enjoy the beat, just a real shame that humans are not making the sound. Sad, really....

I've never been on an all music cruise, but one of my doctors is trying to enlist me and some others to go on the Jazz cruise with her. I'm planning right now for either a Europe, Alaska or Hawaii cruise for next year, so I'd probably do one after that.

I was told that also, so they can't accept music from guest, and also sometime don't have all the latest music. Someone in my party in March requested the Biker shuffle, and the DJ, or Entertainment Staff had no idea of what is was, but said he would look into it. Later that cruise we asked him if he had found it, and when he replied he didn't, we pulled it up for him from our family photos/video on the tablet. He also stated that he would put in a request for it, so I guess someone, somewhere has to obtain it before being played.
