Cayoooga Posted February 16, 2014 #26 Share Posted February 16, 2014 We have been to Roatan several times as a cruise ship stop and also on a land vacation. Snorkelling and diving from a boat are the best things to do there. Google Upachaya, Sealegs Roatan, Subway Watersports, Roatanbayislandadventures and also Roatan SandBlasters if you like dune buggies
Travel Junkie Judy Posted February 16, 2014 #27 Share Posted February 16, 2014 We are in Roatan right now - have been here since early January. Last year we stayed a month. Before that we'd been here on several cruises. There are some restaurants that most cruisers have never heard of. All of them have very, very good prices. First is Portside and it is about a 5 minutes cab ride west of the Coxen Hole port (mostly Norwegian Cruise Line) on the road you see from the ship. Sometimes the owner will have a van at port, but if not, it is an awesome restaurant. Worth the cab ride. The view is beautiful, there is a small beach and his prices are reasonable. West End: Cafe Escondido (a favorite of ours) Tita's Pink Seahorse Bar (authentic Island bar & great food) The Buena Vida Toward the East End, there are several great restaurants. If you come into Mahogany Bay - Carnival, RCCL, Holland America - the ones to the east are not far. They are all worth the ride. Cab drivers and tour folks know all of these. Jack''s Harbor View Grill at the French Harbor Yacht Club Temporary Cal's Miss Jenny's Lusty Lizards All of these are listed on Trip Advisors. If I were making a first trip and didn't want to snorkel, I'd get a car at the port - have the driver give you a tour to the east to see the beauty of the island. Then head back toward the west if you want to see the more settled areas. Ask his/her opinion of these restaurants.
texancruzer Posted February 17, 2014 #28 Share Posted February 17, 2014 Yes, Temporary Cal's is a great restaurant ! Our Bodden driver took us there for lunch while on an island tour on our second visit to Roatan (a one week stay) Great views too :) There is also a small restaurant in the main clubhouse of Pristine Bay (dh played golf there one day) called Aqua or Turqouise or something...... BEST ceviche I have ever had !!!!
jerrib Posted March 29, 2014 #29 Share Posted March 29, 2014 Snorkeling in West Bay... great coral canyons 100 feet off the shoreline... get a lot of the feel of scuba with just a mask, snorkel and fins :) Also visiting with the children at the orphanage and leaving supplies with them was a great experience for our family too. Could you please provide more info on the orphanage. This sounds like something my family would love to do. Thanks
