Dive-In Movie Fail

Check your expectations at home. I had heard new blankets, new popcorn...and I was looking forward to another "magical" night with my kid watching a cartoon and creating those memories you see on their commercials. We just returned from an EIGHT night cruise, you would think they could have gotten it right at least one night right? No.....

There was no kids movie....ever. We went and asked 2x if there would be and were told we would just have to keep watching the schedule. At the end we were told...sorry there weren't enough kids on your sailing. My reply to him was....right now they are playing a football game and there are three people watching it.

What is so hard about a classic family friendly movie great for all ages??

Never will be an issue for me. I have never gone on a cruise for the movie selections. There are way too many avenues now days for this to be a big deal. They would rather have you other places on the ship spending money, not sitting by the pool eating popcorn. Good business sense.

What were the movies?

I didn't save the papers but from what I can remember...

Lincoln

Borne Identity

Football

Here comes the boom (which had played on tv the day before)

Football

Deck party a couple of nights.

I would have bought a dive-in movies blanket. Other family friendly activities would be nice, my boy loves camp carnival but not 24/7.

Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed but it didn't ruin my cruise.

This forum would cease to exist If every person that was disappointed over something on their cruise posted here. Sorry it didn't go as you planned but that doesn't justify trying to bring shame to Carnival and/or accuse them of false advertising.

To me the best bet for that type of thing would be the Disney ships. They have movie theaters on board with first-run Disney films.

I thought the same thing but was afraid to say it. Whenever someone gets frustrated that CCL doesn't cater to families, they should remember that they are not a family cruise line. They may offer some family activities, but I absolutely loved not having to worry about language or inappropriate content on the Disney ship (and I certainly didn't miss the casino either.) We have no kids, but we choose not to cross a Pg-13 line, and we found watching JungleBook on deck while we stood in line for Aquaduck or catching a few minutes of Pirates of the Caribbean on deck all made for some nice moments. Even more so with the stage shows for offering high caliber talent without g-strings...

TA Your AWESOME! I love hearing that other people live like we do. Nice to know we are not the only ones :)

It just so happens that in this case I don't believe Carnival is in the wrong.

This will result in the customers thinking twice about CCL next time, though. If they are truly going to be the 'fun' economical cruise line for every one, then they can put ONE family film on in a week... if they are going to limit choices, than the customers will go where they can guarantee their entertainment will have options and that they just aren't important enough in the numbers.

Putting the movie screens on ships ws the worst idea ever - because all they get now is complaints about the movie choices, or lack of choices, or the show times, or the football games, or the soccer games or the volume.

It's a neat little thing to have. If they have something you want to watch then watch it. If not, then don't watch it and don't complain. People have happily been cruising for a long long time without a "Dive-inTheatre."

Or, maybe you should just stay home, save the money, and go to a movie theatre twice a day for a week and get it out of your system.

Really? Have you ever looked at how many different movie genres are out there, how do they satisfy everyone's taste? Answer, you dont. No differently than the food choices. Why would any cruise play first rate movies in cabin or elsewhere, when they can force you to do something else? They let you on cheap, why wouldn't they try and make it up elsewhere?

Bravo! Nicely stated.

I could definitely see why this is frustrating. I have kids I am taking on the Magic on Sunday and this is one of the things they saw on the website and they were excited about it. I can't afford DCL and Carnival has promoted itself as a family friendly option. Unfortunate.

Some of the things I have noticed on Carnival ships were down right revolting . Especially during the hairless chest contest .:(

Hehe. They don't let me on 'cheap' anymore, because I'm not going back to spend one dime with them...

They have to satisfy everyone's food choices when it comes to allergies, vegan, vegatarian, seafood, you name it etc. For families, it really isn't hard to have ONE movie that is family friendly. The staff admitted it, the families on board weren't that important.

They are paying for their vacation like every body else and should have options for entertainment. It's their job to try to wow everyone of their guests. Otherwise, why pay for your vacation. It's not even that cheap. I paid $1500 for a crappy CCL Dream cruise. I would have rather driven to the beach for about 1/5th of that.

I'm still trying to figure out how a business that claims to be everyone's cruise vacation gets away with cheerleaders who say that don't have to try to please everyone... that's the point of a vacation business...? Unless you are saying that families aren't welcome or important so why try to appeal to different ages anyway... in which case, why did CCL build splash and kids zones? It seems odd like it doesn't go both ways...

I'll see you on board. But Carnival is a family friendly option - loads of childen on every cruise when schools are out. And they all have a blast..most of them could care less about not being able to watch a movie since there is so much else to do.

So you need a movie in order to be happy on a cruise. Got it.

Good news! You can watch a movie in your cabin! Just check the schedule for a child appropriate film in case they don't have one on deck that suits your fancy.
