Cas - a bit disappointed

CAS is just not the same since they changed their tier system.....Perhaps if you were higher than lucky you would get treated a little better. Im not sure...This was the first cruise there was no little treat delivered to the room...believe me....I never needed it, just looked forward to it I guess. It made me feel a bit special.

Also I did not expect the host to cash my points in two days before the cruise ended...what is up with that? I did go up and voice my displeasure, the host reluctantly put them back, but he was upset doing it..

Someone tell me how the points are calculated over the year is it February to March?

The bartenders also got a little upset if you ordered something that was not house liquor....I understand and I was willing to pay for the drinks, I just didn't like the feeling that you wanted something for nothing....Maybe it was just me on the cruise but I don't think so.....All in all the Jewel took every dime of my gambling money and sent me home with nothing..here's hoping the Getaway treats me better......

Roe, hopefully it is limited to the Jewel. We were on the Jewel a few weeks back and did not get ANY warm fuzzy's from the casino personnel.

But, you are right, the new point system really sucks.

I took my first 2 NCL cruises last July and had gotten them both comped from a land based casino, and with it we got the drink card and even though I was only Lucky, I was treated quite well in the casino on the Sky~ within one day they knew my name and what beer I drank~ they would give me one even if I wasn't playing. Not sure if it's because I made sure to tip them a dollar every time I ordered or if it was just the casino staff was good~ Looking forward to checking out the Breakaway & Dawn casinos in July with my drink card~ :D

WELL ... for two cruises with in 8 months on the same ship, Gem, it seamed the entire bar staff would up charge my drinks while using house brands. I saw it happen 1st hand and when I questioned why the casino bartender got an attitude. I checked the few slips in my pocket and 60% had been up charged.

If you are paying for the top shelf brand it increases the cost and the 15% tip, they shouldn't have an issue.

Wow...not good news, as we're headed out on the Jewel at the end of December.

We've been CAS cruisers for a long time, and generally been very pleased with the points system, and the casino staff. But admittedly, we haven't cruised since the system changed.

We are not happy with the changes either. Last January on the Gem we had a great time in the casino with Maria Marc as manager. Then the new system, and the Breakaway(ugh) in June. Bad casino personnel there!! Now I know the ship was new, but come on, how many months should it take to be able to correlate the points from one sailing, and add them to the rest of your points. We had points, we lost points, they added in the Breakaway points (wrong amount), so they took them away again. BIG NIGHTMARE!! Then we sailed again in August on the Gem, and the staff attitude just wasn't the same. We are trying again in January, because we do love cruising and NCL, but do not understand why CAS is so intent on pissing off their gamblers,, and risking losing so many

Safe sailing

Just one small note... You say that Breakaway had bad personnel. But what you're complaining about is the system those poor personnel had to work with.

I'm guessing that Rimarie & Maria & Melissa were on your June BA sailing, and they're usually bubbly & upbeat.

On the Gem, Glenn, Maria & Pearl were much more understated.

Why, is anybody's guess.

Isn't that what gambling is? Spending money and expecting nothing! I don't gamble expecting a return or any treat in leu of.

The last time I was on the Jewel the host could not have been nicer......She left a message in my room saying she would like to buy me dinner and a bottle of wine....restaurant of my choice....she told me she tried to take care of all her players.....oh well, again I expected nothing but I like the warm fuzzies and they definitely were not there.....

The name Rimarie sounds familiar....I wonder if it was her on my last Jewel cruise....

Well the other cruise lines in my opinion haven't; yet come close to CAS....sometimes Carnival will give you a good deal, they sent me an offer of $350.00 cash, (they actually hand you the cash and not put it on your card)....and 50% off the fare.....well I was going to book it and found out they were charging 3000.00 for the balcony cabin, so it would have cost 1500.00, I told them to forget it.....I'd stick with NCL.....they have the best prices by far for the cruise itself......

You know it really makes no sense, when I was on the Sky in September, they refused to give me B&B which I drink straight in a brandy snifter....this cruise they gladly gave me the B&B which run close to $ 30.00 a bottle and refused to give me Patron XO Café, which is 19.99 a bottle. I don't get it.....but I have no problem paying for my drinks if they are not on the lucky menu.....LMAO

No system is bad but the staff was rude and horrible. Our first time ever being treated poorly on NCL. Host rolled her eyes at us and said "Oh No not you again" to which we replied, "you left a message in our cabin and asked us to see you"!No apology, just told us our new (wrong) tier score, and turned her back on us. One pit boss my DH knew from the Gem or Jewel came over and spoke to us admitting there had been alot of problems with the staff. Many many people were having problems that sailing. At one time there were more people on line to talk to the casino host/manager than were gambling--not very good for a casino. We really are nice calm people, and she asked to see us!!we weren't negative to her, just said we didn't understand why the computer systems between ships couldn't be linked, and could she find out our tier level for us? Like I said it was our first poor encounter ever on NCL, and it hasn't stopped us from sailing again and again. And we don't expect anything from the casino except for a good time. We have high cards at many AC hotels, and are very familiar with casino policy especially Harrahs, which NCL is now mimicing .

Safe sailing

I was not getting Huffy, just stating a fact that when I go and donate my money to the slot machines I am not expecting anything in return. How was that huffy? I am not that type of person so please do not mark me as such.

I do wish that the point system was a bit more beneficial as far as earning more points per play/time. I don't think it is as gracious as land casinos. Lets face it, at sea, there isn't another one around for you to go to!!! No competition. :)

Not only are the comps far inferior to equivalent play at land-based casinos, but the games are considerably worse -- especially the machines.

I really suggest you guys just avoid the casino in general, and just enjoy the cruise without gambling. Take a trip to Vegas, Atlantic City, or one of many other US casinos if you really feel the need to gamble.

Playing for any significant money on board is just lighting it on fire.

Now that it seems the service from hosts/staff and the points system has gone downhill, the situation has gotten even worse.

Pretty suicidal for the casino staff to be acting this way, as they have a captive audience of degenerate gamblers playing horrible-odds games, but I guess they don't seem to care. If I were a host there, I would be kissing major ass to every customer.

Anyway, don't fool yourself that your comps/perks are worth the terrible odds. They aren't. I know it's tough to stay out of the casino on a boring sea day or quiet evening, but there are so many other things to do instead.

This is not an anti-gambling lecture, because as you can see from my screen name, I actually gamble for a living.

I will not be playing at all in the casino, aside from the blackjack tournament and maybe poker if it runs.

If you play bjack at 50 or more a hand the odds are the same as a land based casino.

Really? Because I heard that you can't double anything but 9, 10, or 11, which is a very lousy restriction. And can you double after split, or is that also not allowed?

I was on the Jewel last December and the only difference between the NCL casino and a land based casino was the dealer hit on soft 17 on all tables with a minimum of less then 50 a hand. There were no restrictions on what you can double on and you were permitted to double after splitting. Has anyone been on a cruise since then that can verify this has not changed?
