Krazy Kruizers Posted December 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2013 We have several squirrels who visit us from time to time. Yesterday was one of them. One checking on the other one: Another one checking out the yard: Usually the only time the squirrels will attack the suet cakes is when they are expecting:
sparky-elpaso Posted December 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Having grown up in Michigan and now living in the desert in Texas squirrels are one animal I miss. We have little ground squirrels but they're pretty shy.

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Beautiful Our Christmas Cactus used to bloom at Christmas -- now it blooms in the spring and around Thanksgiving for the most part. It does have a few flowers on it right now.

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 26, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 26, 2013 My favourite out of that nice lot - love pelicans. These look VERY different to the ones we have here I agree -- they are way more beautiful than the ones we see in the Caribbean.
dileep Posted December 26, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 26, 2013 My favourite out of that nice lot - love pelicans. These look VERY different to the ones we have here These are Brown Pelicans. We have a few White Pelicans in the area, but I have not seen them. Australian Pelicans are different! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelican
zackiedawg Posted December 26, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 26, 2013 The pelicans are the same type - brown pelicans - but the Pacific browns during breeding season will develop a rich red color to their throat patch...while the Atlantic variety during breeding season will develop a dark reddish brown color to their neck and nape, but not the pouch. When in non-breeding colors, the two will essentially look the same. Neat shots - always love the pelicans...and I miss the seals too! Here are a few shots of a northern harrier on the hunt, this past Christmas Eve:

This explains why we did not see the red throat patch until recently!
