We bought DK Eyewitness Travel Australia and were satisfied.

Same here - we really like the DK Eyewitness guidebooks - but as soon as you arrive, you must buy a bird book so you can check off all the amazing birds you see!

DK Eyewitness was our favorite, but we used Fodor, too.

We wrote to the various Australian State tourist offices and requested travel literature (in most cased applied online). Local tourist info sites were also very helpful.

Agree with the previous post.

If you want a fun read before you go I would recommend Bill Byrson's In a Sunburned Country. Quite a different insight into Australia.

Just back from the 34 Au cruise followed by 28 days in the islands and NZ.Had a great time and I am sure you will too. You won't believe the high prices of ship tours in Au.
