Need help planning roll call events

Would some of you experienced cruisers tell me the best way to organize fun roll call events?

Best way to handle large group for cabin crawl?

Best way to do a slot pull?

Any other ideas? I know they often have a gift exchange yet many (myself included) packed to the max to keep luggage minimum.

I should also mention this is a transatlantic and usually Meet and Mingle is first sea day, so better to split up other events? Most prefer cabin crawl early in cruise so it still is neat! LOL;)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Debra

Cabin crawl is usually best immediately after the official Connections Party...that way you have the most of your roll call already there and less of a chance for people to forget about it.

For Slot Pull I always do about 2:00 or 3:00 on a sea day. Make sure you talk to the casino host when you get on the ship to check and make sure the dat you have picked it good and does not conflict with any big events in the casino. They will reserve a machine that you pick out so that it is available when you get there with your group. The people n the cage will help you by dividing up the money at the end of the slot pull, and that is why you want them to know you are coming, especially if you have a huge crowd.

You are probably best off sceduling it for third or fourth sea day so that it is after the Connections Party, that way if the date you pick has a big conflict in the casino or with the activities schedule, you will be able to change the time or date and tell everyone at the connections party.

Best way to do a slot pull is to have everyone bring exact change, in exchange for exact change they get a ticket with a number on it. Call people in number order, and have them hold the ticket until the end when you divide the money up. If dealing with large groups make sure to let them know to come toward the front as their number gets closer. No one gets money without a ticket, and no one can enter the slot pull once you start the spinning. One person stands at the front next to the handle and helps the person who is spinning if they are confused about how to spin. On additional person sits on the other side and watches the number of spins per participant, just as a back up.

I usually get one person to keep track of the big spins and who had the big spins, because sometimes there are small prizes given by the casino (t-shirt or trophy), and the best spins win the prizes......other times there are no prizes, so don't expect anything from the casino......

Cherylroslyn, THANK YOU so much….

This is a big help! I have read other threads about the events but they normally just confirm who is signing up - AND the date /time of the event

May I impose on you to ask about large groups for a cabin crawl?

All I know is it is best early in the cruise, usually right after Connections as you said. And start from the top down to make stairs an option.

Is it possible to order a glass of wine for each person or juice with Celebrity and then depending how big the group- get small donation for wine? IF they care to have a beverage at the end...

I really never took notice of all the events and went to roll call to meet the people I had chatted with for months before. SO I am an experienced cruiser - just not in events.:o

Thank you again for slot pull details!

Well since everyone is allowed to bring two bottles of wine on board, why dont you have evryone bring a bottle of wine and have glasses ready in the last roon, presumable the largest....and most probably a suite. the buttler will bring glasses if the suite person orders them and you all can throw together some cash for the butler. If you don't end up with a suite on your list you can still do something like this in a balcony with some logistic planning.

I alsways do my cabin crawls in the order of smalles room to largest. I do not care about making it all down hill. We have such a huge group of people for the cruise I do every April, that there is no way to control the group and keep it together between rooms. Hence, the able bodied people use stairs and some of the less able bodied do the elevators. I kind of ping pong around, there is walking involved.....but we call out the next room as people are coming in and out of the current room and the host in the current room knows which room to tell people to go to next......so as you are walking in the hall to or from a room, people are saying "9103" is next or something like that.......

There is no way to plan a cabin crawl and a route in advance..... one third of your participants most likely won't even show up and very ofter some of your people who promised rooms won't show up or gt sea sick...so there is no way of telling what rooms you are going to until the day of the crawl.....

Stick with one inside, one oceanview, standard balcony, concierge, aqua, and any of the suites, the more suites the better. One of the rooms that gets a ton of attention is a Family Veranda and if you can get an aft Concierge class room that is alawys popular as well...... I'm speaking of M-class so if your ship is solstice it may be a little different.

Don't go to five different balcony rooms...it gets monotonous.......but again don't say no to anyone offering a room until the day of the crawl. If you have five balconies signed up great...because if four don't show up you still have a room........

We had to be prepared to split the cabin crawl up and add in extra cabins

We had so many wanting to do it that we split it into two - set off 30 minutes apart and then each cabin presenting had 2 guests from each in there - when the first one had been, 1 person joined them to go to the next cabin leaving 1 person to show the cabin

We had to also make sure the concierge and butler was aware this number of people were coming into the largest of the suites - the butler was there in the room too

Unfortunately one of the guests did not go with the plan and decided they did not want to wait so grabbed 10 people and took them to her suite - they were a little peeved afterwards as they missed all the other cabins as they then had no idea where the rest of the group were

hello, I am posting a PDF file ( it will be at the bottom of the page)for you with a setup for a cabin crawl/poker run. I think it will help you. I just posted it on the roll call and everyone could print out their own copy so they knew where they were going. I also did door signs ( Ican upload one of those if you wish) for the 10-12 cabins we were visiting so stragglers could follow along.

Cheers, h

This looks like fun too!!! Thanks middlehaitch!:p

Tiggertastic good idea about butler info.... I bet the guest who snuck off with some of the group doesn't ever do THAT again!:D

From what I can tell so far - there are alot of viewers and few want to show, and I guess that is normal. Especially hard to find, inside, ocean view, and family.

Some were ok with with the bring a bottle of wine, while others don't drink and felt they didn't want to be obligated to bring a bottle...which is why I thought a tray of beverages either at the last suite OR better still - sunset bar or other bar venue so all can drink what they wish?

Never will please everyone, but great ideas will satisfy MOST of us!

Thank you!

Debra
