serene56 Posted September 16, 2005 #26 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Our first cruise my brother gained 14 pounds. Thats 2 pounds a day--which is almsot 7000 calories a day-=- each day. Its important to take the stairs instead of the elevator...which he took the elevator and in ports walk around-- He took cabs. Themost I gained was 3 pounds but blame it on water weight- VERY important to drink water also..lol
salty dingo Posted September 17, 2005 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I agree about avoiding the elevators. Besides the wait, it is almost always faster to walk the stairs. Plus, it was my excuse to eat whatever I wanted. I guess not everyone is in good enough physical shape to do stairs, but if at all possible, it is convenient exercise. I cannot conceive of gaining 14 pounds in a week. That boggles my mind. Someone would literally have to be doing nothing but eating constantly and still have an oversize stomach to pull that feat off! I eat two or three full meals a day on a cruise (two big meals and a snack if busy for lunch on a shore excursion) but I really don't gain weight on cruises - maybe it is my metabolism or something. I think there are people who like to eat pretty much all day long, I could not do that. I did not even make the midnight buffet once last cruise because of the late dinner sitting. I wanted to but just could not - no apetite!
sharonella Posted September 19, 2005 #28 Share Posted September 19, 2005 Much of the 14 lbs just has to be water weight! Whatever weight you drop the first few days you are home & eating "normally" is not actually stored fat. BUT that said - those "liquid calories", plus all the sauces, butter, desserts, etc. are "small" in volume but very dense in calories - so it really can be easier to eat way more calories without realizing exactly how much more. I guess that's what the "volumetrics" diet is based on. It's the difference between a bagel & cream cheese & coffee for breakfast, or a bowl of cereal & milk, plus a cup of fruit, plus a soft boiled egg - they both can have the same amount of calories - but the cereal, etc, is more filling because there is a larger volume of food, plus includes fiber & protein, so you feel full longer. And about the stairs - if you're not in "great shape" to begin with - taking them down all the time is a start - plus, since they're not very steep - take as many flights up as you can comfortably, then take the elevator the rest of the way - any extra flights of stairs are better than none! Az_Redneck Posted April 13, 2006 #29 Share Posted April 13, 2006 OK, this may sound dumb, but what is the Supper Club?
serene56 Posted April 13, 2006 #30 Share Posted April 13, 2006 OK, this may sound dumb, but what is the Supper Club? Supper clubs are specialty resturants. Pay for meals onboard the Conquest and Spirit class ships. Its an upscale dining room that charges to dine here per dinner. $30.00 pp

serene56 Posted April 25, 2006 #34 Share Posted April 25, 2006 Will be on Valor this summer and want to eat at the supper club. Just saw the menu on this thread and was wondering if anyone has ordered ALL of the appitizers? They all look so great, I would like to try every one. This thread is making me hungry.:D at the supper club you will be only trying one appetizer-- or pay for the others.. (sry) but it has been reported that people have been known to get two of them. Guess it depends on the server, etc. Both times we tried and were told no. Now in the dining room-- you can order as many as you want. and let me tell you how small portions are--- lol if you see chicken with peanut sauce... you get three tiny pcs. so ordering all appetizers are the way to go. try stuff that you wouldnt normally get to try at home== especially if ya gotta pay for it. We try the soup every night. strawberry soup surprised me as it tastes like melted ice cream.
