Have a reservation using Marriott points...any comments on hotel, airport/port shuttle? This is the hotel on Gulf Stream Way in Dania. Also wondering about nearby restaurants/grocery store/drug store for those last minute items??

Any info will be appreciated!

Don't know the difference in points required for this hotel vs. Marriott Marina, but if you can do it, switch to Marriott Marina. Much nicer hotel and right across the street from the port, and within walking distance to stores.

We had a great precruise night at the Courtyard in May. The hotel is beautiful -- brand new, as noted by Trent. We had a good dinner at the Islamadora Fish Co. adjacent to Bass Pro Shops (easily walkable from the hotel). Breakfast at the hotel was very good -- we got the two for breakfast rate.

Marina Marriott is basically AT Port Everglades, it's directly across the street and the tower rooms (south side view) at the Marina Marriott have a spectacular view of the ships. It's a very nice hotel and is within walking distance of many many shops, restaurants, grocery, drug, and liquor stores.

The Courtyard is brand new, but actually in Dania Beach alongside I-95 and next door to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. There's nothing within walking distance except Bass Pro Shops and Islamorada Fish Company restaurant. It's about 15 minutes or so from Port Everglades & FLL.

If you're cruising from Port Everglades and won't have a rental car I'd go for the Marina Marriott over the Courtyard.

BUT if you can use your points at any Marriott property, then I'd go for the Renaissance. It's only a few years old and IMO nicer than the Marina Marriott. It's just a block and a half west of the Marina Marriott, right across from the entrance to Port Everglades, and even closer to all the amenities of SE 17th Street... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLBR

Stayed at the Courtyard by Mariott Airport and Cruise Port in June. A nice (and new) property. Decent and safe part of town. About 5-10 minutes from airport (free shuttle - use courtesy phone in luggage claim). They picked us up in 15 minutes as promised.

You must sign up for the cruise port shuttle in the lobby of the hotel upon checking in. They make runs at 10 11 and 12. It's about a 15 minute ride from this property to Port Everglades. They used an extended van that holds about 10 - 12 passengers and luggage.

One negative - no free continental breakfast. They did have a buffet style breakfast in the lobby for about $6.50 pp. Even so....would definitely consider this property again if flying in only 1 day before the trip. Any longer and would prefer the Marina Mariott (or better yet the Harbor Springs Mariott) which are both located closer to the beach and cruise ship port.

I believe you mean Harbor BEACH Marriott. No such place as "Harbor Springs Marriott", at least not in South Florida ;)

We currently have reservations at the Courtyard Marriott but now after reading this I'm considering changing them to the Harbor Beach or Marina, can a person walk to the port from these hotels? Do they offer free shuttle pick up at Airport also like the Courtyard? Is there "close" shopping within walking distance of Harbor and Marina ? Thanks! Going on cruise number 2 in January...:)

Neither Marina Marriott or Harbor Beach Marriott have airport shuttles... Harbor Beach Marriott is a beautiful 4-star resort directly on the nicest part of Fort Lauderdale beach, but there's really nothing within easy walking distance.

You can walk to shopping from Marina Marriott, and while you could walk to the port from Marina Marriott you won't want to. While Port Everglades is directly across from the Marina Marriott, the way the security checkpoint is set up it's a long walk just to the entrance, and the port itself is massive. It's not really set up for walkers within the port, and if your ship is docked in the south end of the port it's a 2-3 mile walk from the entrance.
