I'm so excited for you. You're gonna love cruising. Sometimes I wish I had never gone on that first one - now I want to go all the time and unfortunately don't have the funds to go as much as I would like.

Have fun!

Hello. Thank you to luvmysox1, ARgal30, and GeorgiaMomof4 for all the good information!! Now I'm excited about a possible future cruise. If we could find a good deal for the end of May, I'd love to try it. But more likely, it would be next year before we could go. My husband had to use 2 vacation days, when the bad weather/ice was in our area (near Columbus GA). With the remaining days, we hope to take our child to Universal Studios Orlando. Our first cruise will almost certainly be on a Disney ship. But for a long time, I wanted to go on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas. I think I may bring some instant tea and sugar and make my own glass of tea. My husband has only been on the Magic Kingdom ferry boat to the parking lot. But he handled it well. lol The Tower of Terror ride made him sick for over 30 minutes. Bless his heart. He just said, he would be willing to try a cruise. But for now, I will enjoy you wonderful posters on CruiseCritic and dream about it. Thank you!:):)

Hopefully you'll get a cruise booked one day then. If you're wanting to do Disney you'd better start saving now! I've always wanted to do a Disney but just can't justify the additional cost between Carnival and Disney.

Tower of Terror is enough to make anyone sick! Ships are completely different! Good luck in whatever you decide.

Being from the south, and a religious sweet tea drinker, I made my own while cruising also.

I used tea bags on the ship though. A tea bag with hot water. Stir in some sugar. Add about 1/4 cup of cool water and ice.

Don't forget the lemon! Great idea.

As a frugal traveler who has done a Disney/Universal land trip as well as a Carnival family vacation, I can tell you right now you will spend WAY less on a cruise. Unless you live in Orlando and don't have to pay for lodging, air and rental car, I can't imagine any way a trip to Universal would price out any less. Having said that, we cruise when the prices are lowest and so far always in an inside cabin.

Just my two cents :)

Hey again -

You mentioned the Wyndham has several non-motorized 'toys' available. Am I correct in that you leave a deposit on them and it is returned when the equipment is returned? This includes kayaks, snorkel gear, floats?

Does the Melia have anything like that to offer? What about any other water activities that the kids can do? Are there people on the beach offering services like parasailing?

Do you have phone numbers or web addresses for the Wyndham and the Melia?

Yes, you are correct in that your deposit is returned when you return the gear. I honestly don't know about what the Melia has as we just went over there and looked at their pool and grounds.

There were people right on the beach between the Wyndham and the Melia doing parasailing and various other things. I didn't go over and check out any prices though.

Here is the website for the Wyndham and the phone number is there for you to see - http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/bahamas/nassau/wyndham-nassau-crystal-palace-casino-a-wyndham-resort/hotel-overview or you can just google it and it will come up.

Thank you for your review! My very first cruise was on the Fascination 10 years ago! I enjoyed her then and I'm sure I'll enjoy her now. The next one I'll be on is the Ecstasy. Only 254 more days to go!

Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it. My very first cruise was on the Glory 10 years ago! We didn't cruise again until 2011 and we are at 4 total now. I can't believe we waited so long to do it again! Probably should have waited longer though because I want to cruise all the time now and unfortunately the budget just doesn't support that!

I thought I read this somewhere but just thought I would ask. Did you have a sail n sign card and a room key or was the sail n sign card your room key?

Your sail and sign card is your room key and what you use to make purchases while on board the ship. You also have to use it in ports to debark and embark the ship.

Your sail and sign card is your room key. Just so you know, you will need a separate card with a magnetic strip for the safe. I use an old gift card.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks for a great review. We are a family of 4 taking our first cruise in June. I was just wondering how long it took you to get off the ship in Nassau? I tried to book an excursion through carnival for the kids (dolphin encounter at Atlantis- its a surprise) but they were sold out. I was able to book directly through Atlantis but we have to be off the ship and at Atlantis by 930am (we port at 8am). Is this possible and should I get the FTTF - would that help? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

You don't need FTTF to get off early. Nassau isn't a tender port. You'll make it there fine.
