We've not ever sailed HAL before but in looking at some TA cruises we're super interested now that both of us finally retired. Usually I like Aft cabins, bigger balcony, etc. But in reviewing some information that was posted, it seems that at least the Eurodam doesn't follow suit on bigger aft balconies. So, I'd like your some opinions before I book. I also would like some input as to some good cabins #'s to ask ??? We insist on upper and lower levels being cabins. We can only afford the V's ...

My wife and I have booked aft VA Cabins on the Noordam and Westerdam a number of times and love them. The cabins are somewhat bigger and the veranda is a great deal bigger than normal V cabins. Hope this helps. I am sure others will also give their opinions.

There are a number of advantages of being in an aft cabin:

1. Very little traffic outside your door.

2. You are a 2-minute elevator ride up to the Lido Restaurant for quick snacks.

3. You are a 2-minute elevator ride down to the MDR.

4. You are a 2-minute elevator ride from the Room Service kitchen so delivered food is always hot.

5. No wind while the ship is moving.

6. Protected from most of the weather so you can stay outside while others cannot.

Disadvantages.

1. Once in a great while, the wind might give you a whiff of smoke from the tall smoke stacks.

2. It is a long walk to the Crow’s Nest where they serve the green pea soup in Glacier Bay.

We were in cabin 5174 Feb 2 -Feb 9. It was slightly smaller than we had expected, and the balcony had two whicker chairs and a whicker table. The room itself, however, was very convenient...1.near the aft elevator...easy to get to the pool deck and the Lido; 2. close to decks 2 and 3 ..where most of the lounges ,bars, restaurants, casino, theaters are. Here is our youtube video of our trip. Judge for yourself.

If you want the bigger balcony - consider 4166 or 4168 (both VD category). Their balconies are double wide (due to a service stair location).

The aft VA's &/or VB's are not wider than other location verandahs, but they are deeper, and do include more shelter etc that the others have said.

The smoke never really bothered us.

I looked at 4168 & 4166, but the balconies look the same size. Is the deck plan wrong?? We are light sleepers and I was wondering if any noise echoed from below???

There is no room between them but the balconies connect.

This is my first time posting pix here from my iPad so hope this works.

"Regular" balconies would end where the pipe is behind the wicker chair.

Oh yeah, and there was no noise from below... We would occasionally hear the room steward get ice from their room in between the rooms (we were in 4166). But that was during the day only.

Did you notice any smell from the exhaust fan on the deck below?

Thanks

That looks pretty good!!

Also note that "regular" balconies don't have loungers (not enough room).

I've heard other people say that. We did not. And we spent quite a bit of time out there. I'll be back in the same cabin one week from today!! So I'll report back if there is any smell this time.
