Santorini - entire island or just Oia?

Hi,

My dh and I will be in Santorini for the first time in an upcoming cruise. Should we spend the 4-5 hours in Oia or or do a tour to include the beaches , winery, etc.? Is there enough to do in Oia for four hours? Is one hour too little time to spend there?

We skipped Oia, decided to do the tour to the winery, black sand beach, highest point of the highland, etc. We were tendered to the older port and rode buses up the crater rather than having to take the cable car or donkeys.

We had the option to depart the bus in Fira for the trip back to the ship, but even decided to just stay on the bus and return the way we had gone up.

All depends on what you are looking for.

We rented a car and saw most of the island. Ola is quite small and unless you are going to go into every shop I think it would be pretty hard to spend 4-5 hours there. The island itself is very compact and very easy to get around on by car.
