CruisinNana Posted June 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Have you heard of the new Onyx Hotel on Portland Street? Do you know anything about it? Trying to decide where to stay post Canada/NE cruise in August. We want a nice hotel near Quincy Market not more than $250 a night. Thanks, Dee Till the Maasdam Till the Oosterdam
F5Loar Posted June 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We were a few blocks from Quincy Market at the Hyatt Regency Financial District. At $40 a night(priceline.com)it's hard to beat. All rooms were recently remodeled and the bedding was so comfortable we wanted to take it home with us. Very nice rooms in a safe area. You can walk to the Market, eat your lobster and walk back. CruisinNana Posted June 17, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 F5Loar, is it true that when bidding on priceline, you have to take whatever you get and therefore would not be guaranteed the Hyatt Regency? Since I am making reservations for several couples, I would be afraid to take a chance. Dee Till the Maasdam Till the Oosterdam
F5Loar Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Ah take a chance to save some big bucks! There are chat rooms that tell you what Priceline is giving you that day and the price you need to pick. I knew this before I bid blindly. I've never been disappointed in what I got from Priceline. sail7seas Posted June 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2004 A friend e-mailed me yesterday that she bid $50 on Priceline and got Hyatt Financial District. She was pleased.
FlorenceItaly Posted June 17, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Yes, the Hyatt Financial District is the best priceline deal going in Boston now. I got it for 45, but most are getting it for $40, like F5Loar. I bid $45 first time. biddingfortravel dot com is a wealth of information. CruisinNana Posted June 17, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Thanks for all your encouragement. I think I will do my homework on biddingfortravel and figure out how to do this. I assume there is no cancellation from priceline reservations. I like to be able to cancel, but losing $45 on a room is a lot better than spending $200+ on one that coulod be cancelled..... F5Loar Posted June 18, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2004 I think there is cancelation allowed but there is a loss of fee, maybe 25%. Remember that Priceline takes your money right then. When they added the taxes and service fee to mine it came to a total of $51 so still it was a steal at a Hyatt. But to park my car at $26 was a rip. At least I didn't pay the $200 plus tax a night plus the $26. I'm thinking about those fluffy soft big thick beds now after taking my hot shower with deluxe showerhead and thick and thirsty towels laying back watching free HBO. kcindnaeus Posted June 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Does anyone know how much to expect to pay for a cab fare from the airport to the Hyatt and then from the Hyatt to the ship terminal? Also, does the rooms have safes in them? We like to keep our cash and jewelry locked up. Thank you.
sail7seas Posted June 19, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Taxis from Logan Airport to anywhere are very expensive and got more expensive this week. They just instituted a new charge (made sure to get it in place prior to Democratic Convention coming to town). I wasn't paying close attention but it is at least $6 just to get into a taxi at Logan before it goes anywhere....called a use charge or some such. It is only about 10 minute ride to the hotel/to the dock (depending upon traffic) but could easily cost $15.
Lisa63 Posted June 19, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2004 The $6.00 additional taxi fee from Logan was instituted at least a couple of years ago. It has, however, gone up to $6.50 in recent weeks. It's to cover tunnel and bridge fees, building of the convention center, etc. Please keep in mind that none of this goes to the taxi driver. To answer the question on approximate taxi costs -- I travel a lot for business and my office is not too far from the Hyatt Financial District. I'd expect to pay about $20-$25 from the airport to the hotel and $10-$15 from the hotel to the pier. kcindnaeus Posted June 21, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 21, 2004 Thank you Sail7Seas and Lisa63. Since you both know the area I was wondering if either one of you can recommend a couple of nice, not extremely expensive, restaurants within walking distance from the Hyatt that serve fabulous lobster? If not lobster, than maybe you can recommend something else in the area? Thanks.
