bevrun Posted April 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Hi, After we disembark the Millenium in Venice, we are planning to take the train to Florence late that afternoon. We would like to spend the morning sightseeing in Venice. But where can we store our luggage? Will Celebrity hold it for us? Have any of you former Med cruisers had to deal with this? Thanks for your help! Bev
jhannah Posted April 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2004 If you take a ship's tour, your luggage will be kept underneath the bus. Otherwise, you will have a challenge. Some people have found a nearby hotel and had the bell desk hold the bags for later. A good tip can make this a viable possibility. wwinfl91 Posted April 3, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Check for a "held luggage" office at the train station. We used the "held luggage" office at the airport last year when we were in Venice. Check this web site for a link to the train station and then look for information. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/ I checked under the Transportation links and then under Venice Railroad station and they do talk about having a held luggage office at the train terminal. They don't mention what the charge would be. At the airport it was 2 or 3 euros a day. Have a great cruise. dbh62ark Posted April 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Just FYI for anyone that might need it--the hotels here in the U.S. and overseas are more reluctant to hold luggage, even using the bellboys and giving tips. We've used this method in the past a lot, and it's not working as well as it used to. Another down side following 9/11, but I do understand their position. wwinfl91 Posted April 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Here's what we did when we were on the Golden last year. We were going to stay an extra 3 days in Venice after the cruise but we purchased the ship to airport transfer and had them get our bigger pieces of luggage and us to the airport. Then we went to the held luggage office at the airport, it is on the lower level all the way to one end, and stored our bigger pieces of luggage there. It costs 2 or 3 euros a piece a day but was a secure place and you could lock the luggage. Then we took the airport waterbus service back to Venice with our carry-on luggage where we had repacked what we needed for the 3 day stay. When our time was up in Venice we again took the special airport waterbus to the airport and picked up our stored luggage and did a little repacking on a bench near the held luggage office before we took it upstairs to turn it over to the airline for the flight home. If you elect to go this route be sure to save some 1 and 2 euro coins to use to rent a cart to haul your luggage around the airport. Have a great cruise and a good time in Venice. Mike Andrews Posted April 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Hi Isobella, You could take the Airport land bus from nearby Piazzale Roma,or you can take the water bus from the Station(Ferrovia)to St Marks Square, where you could take the Alilaguna Airport Boat Service to the Airport.
