Indeed, Singapore is a terribly long way from the USA. That's why we have hesitated from going to the USA for so long to take a cruise and would prefer to cruise out of Europe.

Unless you really covet a Chinese stamp in your passport, I recommend avoiding Beijing as a connection point. It's a real pain transiting through there.
