belkin Posted October 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2014 I am sure it will be great fun. Hawaii is beautiful. You may want to check the roll call for your sailing.
WindsorFred Posted October 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2014 Did this last January, was a great trip. 8 sea days to relax. Missed Kona as the waves were terrible, is a tender port. Love the Miracle and her crew. Enjoy your cruise.

I did this same cruise back in Jan on the Miracle... I highly recommend the Helicopter tour in Kona...we went with a company named Safari who picked us up & dropped us up from the port...we were a group of 4 and we all LOVED it and would use them again. http://www.safarihelicopters.com

bernie.dilantyler Posted November 10, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Does any take advantage of fun points.. I get cash back on another card..thought my points would go to our next trip now I find they expire. (Trick?)
susie8862 Posted November 10, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Way to long to wait.. Thank goodness I'll be packing summer clothes. Advice would be appreciated. Are you WC bound? When we did this cruise, there were many both manual and electric. So many of the shuttles we took to different places had the WC lift and in the front of the buses was strictly for this purpose. Orison Posted November 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Way to long to wait.. Thank goodness I'll be packing summer clothes. Advice would be appreciated. You may need something a little warmer for the crossings.
susie8862 Posted November 10, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2014 You may need something a little warmer for the crossings. 100% agree. Quite chilly crossing the Pacific. The closer we were to the Islands, the warmer it became. Hardly anyone in the pools (many in the hot tubs though)
SadieN Posted November 10, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 10, 2014 In Kona-- if you want to get off early either be priority for tendering (Diamond/Platinum/FTTF) or take a ships tour. Otherwise you might not get off til after noon.
bernie.dilantyler Posted November 10, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Great advice on weather leaving CA.. I'm flying in from PA so I'll keep that in mind to travel with warm clothes.. I'll never forget going to PR for Christmas. I left my warm clothing in the car.. I froze when we returned.
bernie.dilantyler Posted November 10, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted November 10, 2014 If I book excursions that are not carnival and they cancel tender trips I'll lose big time won't it?
Rankbronc Posted November 10, 2014 #15 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Did this cruise on the Splendor back in Jan of 2013 and are booked for the Oct 2015 cruise also. The weather is a bit cool the first and last couple of days. We had overcast skies most of the trip, but weather is always a crap shoot. On Maui we booked a helicopter tour trough Air Maui. We purchased this through Costco.com. It was an awesome tour of Maui and over to Molokai and back. Think we will book a Kaui Helicopter tour this year as the last time the ship did an overnight on Oahu and skipped Kaui. A great cruise hat goes from 4 relaxing sea days to 5 busy port days and 4 more relaxing sea days to unwind before visitng that exotic foreign port of Ensenada! Cruisin' Chick Posted November 11, 2014 #18 Share Posted November 11, 2014 We did the RT out of San Pedro to Hawaii three times on Princess, and always at the holidays, and it's great. You may want to pack something warm like pants and a light coat for the first few days and last few days because our weather here in LA could be variable in November. Anything from 50s to 80s in LA, and possibly rainy (we desperately need rain). When you get closer to the islands, it'll be in the upper 70s or low 80s. Make sure to check out the FAQs on the Carnival web site. That's where excursions are listed as well as other great info. As others have said, for the tender ports (Kona would be one...not sure where you'll be on Maui but if it's Lahaina, that's a tender port, too), those with ship-booked excursions will be escorted onto the tenders ahead of those who haven't (plus maybe those who have booked in the higher category cabins and maybe those with a high level in the loyalty program -- I'm going by what happens on Princess, but it could be the same for Carnival). The excursions that will be listed on the cruise line site will advise the level for access (wheelchairs, etc.) and level of physical difficulty. Any ship-booked excursions will be taken care of if your ship can't get into any port. You won't get charged (we did have one through Carnival and even though we got into the Caribbean port, the excursion was cancelled due to weather -- we didn't have to do anything to get our refund). If you book through a private company, make sure you understand their refund policies...some will give you a refund if your ship doesn't get to the port, others will give you a partial, and some you're stuck. Get it in writing. Also make sure you have a contact number you can call or email (better) from the ship. For our three Hawaiian cruises, we only missed one port, Kona, due to high waves. Oh, one correction to one post (just in case you're planning to google) it's Kauai. The ships dock in Nawiliwili, which is on the east side of the island. goaties Posted November 17, 2014 #20 Share Posted November 17, 2014 We just finished the HI tour for 15 days from Long Beach on the Miracle. It was amazing. We used Rickys tours on Hilo. Roberts tours on the other islands. wonderful. I would pick a day to just go to the beach and laze around. we had tours each day and it was all day long process. I was glad we had booked so we knew what we were doing each day. Some people spent hours trying to figure out what to do. We enjoyed the whole cruise. It was cool and rocky on the way over and the way back. I wore jeans on the cruise. Sweat jacket etc. If you are the lease bit sea sick you will need meds. The ship rocks back and forth and front to back rocking.
