BrusselsGirl07 Posted November 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2014 Hi everyone - we will be arriving in Reykjavic at 8am, overnighting, and departing at 1pm the next day. Does anyone know how late you can stay out, and how early you can leave the ship the next morning? Just starting to look at tours and would like to take full opportunity of the time we have. Thanks! sddsddean Posted November 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) As far as I know, the gangway is permanently manned by security, so you can stay out as long as you like...your Mum is not waiting up!!:D Theoretically you could get off as soon as the ship is cleared (say 9am) and as long as you are back by sailaway (say 12:30pm), you are fine. Definately do a Golden Circle tour with a private company. We went with http://www.gatewaytoiceland.is/ Simon Edited November 4, 2014 by sddsddean

Nitemare Posted November 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2014 What they said. We used http://www.icelandhorizon.is/ for our tour. Dave uses a minibus, so you're not waiting for 50 people to get back on the bus (or to use the bathroom) at each stop, and he's able to make changes "on the fly" if certain stops are busy to maximize your time at each location. blinking202 Posted November 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2014 The Blue Lagoon is also pretty awesome. When we were there (not from a cruise), we did the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle in one day (starting in Reykjavik) using a rental car. It was a long day, but it was a blast. I think the recommendation to use a tour company is smart, but it is also a pretty easy country to navigate on your own if you are so inclined. Reykjavik itself is also worth dedicating a little time to. The main shopping drag is interesting and there are some nice restaurants and bars. The Opera House is also pretty impressive.
