Anyone out there that just returned from the Dawn having sailed to Roatan, Cozumel, Costa Maya & Belize that could tell me about the entertainment on the ship? Also what was the temp like on first sea day? Anything else you can share would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Just got off today.

The weather in New Orleans was about 70.

The first full day at sea was in the mid 80's.

Everyone was out in the sun..

Didn't really see any shows except a Second City improve, and part of a Magician/Illusionist show.

Anything else you would like answered?

Off the Dawn 2 weeks ago. Entertainment on board was EXCELLENT. Be sure to see the shows in the Stardust and you will love Patti and Josie nightly in the Grand Atrium.

Production crew on the Dawn is excellent with great singers and dancers. Don't miss "Elements".

Even the crew staff show was very good.

Enjoy the shows.

I am an NCL Platinum cruiser.

Thank you for offering to answer questions, I have just a few. Who is the cruise director? Not to be too bratty, but if you get a chance and have them, could you please scan the freestyle dailies? That would answer most everything, haha.

Don't put to much stock in first day temps now if you are sailing in 5 weeks they probably will be cooler. Check the averages for Tampa and Key West those might give you some idea since the ship will be passing parallel to those locations on the first day. Even if is a little cooler than you like when you wake up by the afternoon it should be nice. Also remember the days are very short in January so don't be disappointed if you have very little sail time down the river before it gets dark.

FomulaRacer, Patti and Jose are off the ship, not back on until March 8th according to their website. Disappointed they won't be on when we sail in February.

5:14 PM sunset. Guess it's a little better than the 4:22 PM sunset where i'm at on January 4, 2015.

How busy was the Casino? Was there any trouble booking the specialty restaurants? We will be on the Dawn 12/7.

How busy was the Casino? Was there any trouble booking the specialty restaurants? We will be on the Dawn 12/7.

I walked through the casino many times but never played. It was pretty busy almost always.

We used the specialty dining 3 times.

The place that was always filled the fastest was the Teppanyaki restaurant.

Most of the others didn't fill up except the last night.

I would book night 7 early in the cruise.

Thanks matj for the quick response. The reason I was asking is because we are part of the CET 7 star event group. There is supposed to be close to 500 of us on our cruise and I believe they had a similar size group on the cruise you just finished with. Most of us gamble so I figured the casino would be packed when open. I was concerned about specialty dinners b/c we all get a specialty dinner package that works out to be about 3 specialty dinners per person. With that sized group I figured the specialty dinners would all fill up fast. One of the specialty dinners I want to try is Moderno. Did you get a chance to try it and if so how was it?

There was a large group of gamblers, I think it was Seven Stars or something like that.

They all had matching lanyards on.

We did do the Moderno.

The food was very good.

But we had some service issues and almost walked out after 15 min.

The kids wanted to stay so we did and it got a little better.

Thanks again matj. I do not know if you do trip reports but if you do I will be sure to read it if you do.

Not sure what "trip reports" is.

Or is that just a member review on this site?

I have never actually taken the time to put together a review.

Thanks for your response!

Does Blue Lagoon have boneless wings or just bone in?

Almost positive it is just bone in.

We did not eat there, but I went up and ordered wings "to go".

Everyone was watching the T-day football games on the atrium bigscreen.

I have never done one either. Its just a summary of all that went on, highs and lows, day by day of your trip. I am grateful for what you have shared with us so far as we will be boarding the Dawn this coming Sunday. Did they have any decent movies to watch either in room or somewhere on ship? Was it hard to get a spot by the pool? Did you do any shore excursions and if so was there one in particular that was definitely worth the money?

Did you get off the ship in Roatan? Which port did you dock at? and If you got off in Roatan, did you do an excursion? Did you feel safe?

Thanks

This will be our 3rd time in Rotan and felt very safe both times we have been there. We booked excursions on shore, there are plenty of people ready to take you places. The first time we did a city tour and ended up at West End Beaches. Beautiful beach area, loved it. The second time we went ziplining right near where we ported and then to West End again. We are planning the same thing this time. Great port stop!!

We were on the Dawn in October and ate in Moderno, it was delicious!! We had early ressies, 530, and there were only two other couples there. We also ate at La Cuccina and Cagneys, very good meals at all three.

The movies in the room where:

Expendibles 3

Guardians of the Galaxy

Earth to Echo

Catching Fire

Telledega nights

Into the Storm

Planes

Saving Mr.Banks

And a few others I cannot recall

As for the pool, we are big pool people and really did not have issues with getting chairs near the pool.

People are always coming & going.

If you be patient and ask, you can find a couple.

We did no shore excursions

Roatan is one of my favorite ports, we usually do the South Shore zipline & go to West Bay Beach.

Unfortunately Roatan was a total bust this trip because it poured almost all day long.

In fact it had rained for a couple days prior and the island was a muddy mess.

The water along the shores was brown for 100 yards out from the mud running down the hills.

We got off for 15 minutes and called it a day, it never let up.

Most passengers were on the ship or off for a short time.

Ship docks at Coxen hole which is better than Mahogany Bay in my opinion.

In Honduras we did Maya Key through NCL and had a great time. In Cozumel we took a taxi to Paradise beach and the kids had a ball, very inexpensive. Costa Maya was a small town so we walked around then went back to the ship. In Belize we did the cave tubing and zip line, I cannot remember the name of the company but had a blast.

Just off the Dawn also.

1. Staff at embarkation still learning their jobs....slow.

2. Staff in the regular dining rooms.......super slow in getting served.

3. No lobster other than a lobster dish.

4. Casino packed most nights as it was a Harrah's Total Rewards sailing.

5. Entertainment staff was Dingo Dave (CD), Tom (ACD), Alvin, Shirley, a lady from Saint Lucia and one from New York. All full of energy.

6. Thanks to Captain Martin for staying until the winds died down in Belize. The two Carnival ships didnt wait while us and the NCL Sun was able to tender 1.5 hrs later.

7. Shows in Star Dust was a) Welcome aboard; b) Band on the Run; c) Une Vie D'Amour; d) Showdown; e) 2nd City; f) Elements; g) Thrillusionist

8. Alain is the Hotel Director, very approachable.

9. Moderno and Cuciana were very good. Bamboo was slow. Blue Lagoon the fish was overcooked.

10. Ship has wear and stains on a lot of the carpets.

11. Disembarkation was a bit confusing as the announcement to not use the front elevators was not made early enough. They will not let you off on Deck 7.

12. Roatan is at Coxen Hole as this is NCL pier as Carnival owns Mahogany Bay. We were lucky to dock as the winds and waves were very strong. We had a private van so we still got to go to the places we wanted to. Even though we got soaked, it still was fun.

Thanks matj, bosnatis, and jetskier for the useful information. You brought up something that I did not think about and that is bad weather. We only have prepaid for one shore excursion and that is maya chan at Costa Maya. Penciled in we have cave tubing in Belize, Little French Key at Roatan, and Cozumel at this point is still up in the air. I am hoping for some warm weather and plenty of sunshine. I guess we will make the best of whatever weather we are faced with.
