Cruise Advice/Tips

My mother and I are both disabled and want to go on our first cruise (Hawaii). We don’t have a lot of money and are unsure how things work for a cruise. Can someone tell us what all we would have to pay for with estimates? My mother will probably be on dialysis then as well. Do they have a place on the ship to do that and would insurance pay for that? Also what is the best way to get a cheap cabin. We can travel any month.

Thanks.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Specifics can vary by ship/cruise line, so verify before you book.

The fare you pay for the cruise will include your cabin, all meals in the MDR and the buffet. Some specialty restaurants are extra. Most entertainment. Transportation from port to port. As to beverages, tap water, coffee, tea(iced and hot), juice with breakfast and milk with meals, lemonade.

Not covered, sodas, alcohol, any expenses ashore. Unless specified, transportation between home and ship. personal expenses.

There is a company that offers dialysis at sea. I don't know if it is covered by insurance. Medicare does not cover anything outside the US.

Where you really want to check out is http://www.dialysisatsea.com/ because from what I understand, they are the only company who does this directly on cruise ships and it is very limited. A quick peek had their only Hawaiian cruise for this year sold out. 18 days and starting at $2600 pp.

That being said, if you search here on CC or look at the disabled cruising board at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190 you can find some good info I am sure.

Dialysis at Sea says the service is on top of that price for the cruise, and isn't covered by medicare/aid but is covered by some supplements so it wouldn't hurt to ask!

There is a pretty good post about it here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=942810 but the information is a little old (2012) and is probably not up to date with the costs involved that were posted and such.

Good luck finding the right fit for you!
