Deluxe Balcony Question

We are planning a cruise on the Royal in 2016. We've done Princess in the past and have stayed on the Dolphin deck. As the Royal is quite a bit larger, I would appreciate some suggestions as to what deck to look at. Looking at something in the middle of the ship, but not quite sure what deck. Also, would like to hear opinions of the Deluxe Balcony.

Thanks.

We've sailed 2 long cruises on the Royal in deluxe balcony cabins (D508 & E711) & enjoyed the couch. Neither cabin was in the bumped out midship area but have read posts from those who enjoyed those larger balconies despite some privacy concerns.

We've stayed in the deluxe balconies on both the Royal and Regal. We really like the little loveseat, but think that the cabin seems close and smaller than the regular balconies on the other Princess ships. I didn't think that the extended midship balcony was all that wonderful, and you do look right down on the Promenade deck.

We have stayed in a both a balcony cabin and a deluxe balcony cabin on both the Royal and the Regal. We much prefer the regular balcony cabin. The deluxe balcony cabins are somewhat squished together to accommodate the love seat. The love seat is hard and pretty uncomfortable. We found that we ended up using it as a place the throw items on. We felt that the deluxe balcony cabins had less drawer space and felt cramped. In fact on 2 upcoming cruises on the Royal, we changed our reservations from deluxe balconies to regular balconies the location we desired and marked the reservation 'no upgrade'

Our Regal experience in Jan.......We stayed in a balcony cabin on Dolphin deck, I believe room 420. We went with this floor and this room because we definitley wanted the larger balcony...and it DID have a lot of room compared to the "normal" sized balcony. We could easily have added another outdoors chair and still had room to move around. Too after reading that privacy could be an issue if higher up and under the sky walk thingy, we picked the lower room. It was perfect for us.

The room, albeit pretty small had great storage. We did not miss the small couch at all. To give that up and have the larger balcony for less $$ than the deluxe balcony and tiny balcony was surely a great choice. We never just sat around inside the room If time to spare we were on the balcony or out and about the ship.

I looked at one of the deluxe balcony rooms with couch. meh And the "normal" balcony.....sad that the ship design had to include that cut in size.

Compared to the "normal" balcony the extra space was great. Altho we DO spend lots of time out there with books, drinks etc.

The only way we saw what was below us on the promenade deck ( which was a seating area where I notcied lots sat to read) was by standing by the rail and looking down a couple floors. Certainly wasn't missing anything or blocking any views...well unless you want to look down the side of the ship straight into the water for some reason.

Having sailed on both, & Royal numerous times, we find the deluxe with the sofa preferable & to be equivalent to the Grand series. We also enjoyed our cruises with the extended balcony in both the regular balcony & deluxe on different cruises. As cruise frequently we book what we feel is the best deal.
