misslucy01 Posted February 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Going to be in San Juan and St Thomas and was told that roaming charges would not apply. True or false? Service is Verizon. Misslucy01
falkcor Posted February 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2015 should be true as it's a us territory. however, make sure that you're on the land towers, not the ships signal. they should turn off the ship's signal while in port / close to port, just make sure that's so while you're connected to prevent charges
CarolinaDoglover3 Posted February 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Hopefully you can get it to work. We were there in December and for both ports Verizon did not work. Sons ATT did work just fine though. Did run into one person that managed to get Verizon working in St. Thomas. Good luck.
Rare Tapi Posted February 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) In San Juan, Verizon customers get their signal through local provider Claro. The system works just as if you're in the US mainland with ZERO roaming charges, but your phone will say Extended Network since it's not Verizon's network. Some people unfamiliar with this agreement with Claro get spooked and don't use their phones when they see the Extended Network message thinking that they can't get an "in-network" signal, but rest assured that you won't incur any extra charges. I travel to Puerto Rico every couple of months and I have a Verizon phone. I've never been charged any roaming charges and the signal is strong all over the island. Enjoy! firemanbobswife Posted February 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Hubby has Verizon. He did not incur roaming charges in Puerto Rico, however he didn't get any service in St Thomas. I have AT&T and had service in both ports with no roaming.
