New Club for Teens?

Really!! This is one of the most ridiculous statements ever, I know a lot of 18-20 year olds who have been on cruises that were bored, because of the lack of activities for them.

What activities are available to any adult during sea days though? Trivia- an 18 year old can do that. Tea- an 18 year old can do that. Laying out on the pool deck- 18 year old can do that. Eating- 18 year old can do that. Gambling- an 18 year old can do that. So the only thing they can't do that older adults can do is drink, and it's not like it is mandatory to drink on a cruise; plenty of people (myself included) don't; so not being able to drink really is meaningless.

I play trivia, I read, I might laugh at the stupid hairy chest contest. We bring board games to play To me, sea days are a means to an end to get to the ports- by their very nature, they are boring if you don't bring something with you to fill the time.

What activities do people think Carnival should plan for the 18-21 year olds? I'm just confused about what they want to have available for them. I completly understand the parents who don't want their high school senior in a club with older men (and think that Club 02 should be available for anyone still registered in high school)- but what DO they want? Do 18 year olds really want scavenger hunts and craft projects that they do in camp carnival? Or is what being requested a single meet and greet? In which case, I've seen that in the Fun Times before.

My granddaughter will turn 18 6 weeks prior to our cruise in 2017....yes 2017. She loves to cruise and at 16 has been on 24 cruises with another one coming up at the end of July. She loves the teen club and by the end of the first day she has meet a ton of kids and they hang around together all week.

For our 2017 cruise, I have booked an additional TBD person so she can bring a friend....just in case she doesn't meet anyone hanging around the ship with no specific place to go....

I think it would be great to have a 18-20 Meet and Greet the first night of the cruise and/or give consideration to allowing 18 year old high school students (with high school ID) in the teen club.

Do you think the introverts are really going to like the forced social situation of a "club" with strangers?

That sounds like a nightmare, IMO.

My daughetr who is now 19 is an introvert, was always nervous on the initial meet and greet growing up and got through it and that night was where she made friends for the whole cruise.

Now at 19, she just wont go up to strangers by herself and those saying they are an adult etc does not realize how its hard for some to walk into a group of friends at that age and try and join, its awkward and very difficult as most that age bring a friend.

Even just an initial meet and greet the 1st or 2nd day which we have not seen on every cruise could help those in that age not cruising with friends

Hello,

We sailed the Crown Princess in April and they had a Meet and Greet set-up for this age group the first night. It was a simple gathering so kids this age, that are not traveling in a group could meet friends in a similar situation. Our kids had their best cruise because of this and are still in communication with their new friends. It wasn't a club. It was simply a gathering spot for young adults who are looking to make new friends and it worked well.

We sailed on the Carnival Miracle last week and our kids were bored. We've taken 30 cruises so we know how to occupy ourselves but that doesn't mean they weren't disappointed. It would be great if Carnival would simply create a meeting spot for the people that want it. Nobody is forcing them to attend so the kids that want nothing to do with it don't need to be involved.

Just my 2 cents as someone experienced with both scenarios.

Tina

Awesome post, funny in that the ones with no kids are the ones making the biggest waves in here, CC is funny with this, just ignore those and read the ones like this post, thanks for sharing!

This would be perfect for many and no harm for those who are not interested

Has anyone heard of anything yet regarding a new club for young adults age 18-20 on Carnival? At age 18 a lot of teens are still in High School and in my opinion it would be a great idea if Carnival provided a venue/club for these kids as well. Look at it this way: if you are a loyal Carnival cruiser and your kid started out in Camp Carnival, then went to O2, Now What ? Just Nothing? We are now supposed to throw our 18 year old kid into the bars and casino? This age bracket needs THEIR OWN CLUB. Carnival has a lot of space on all of these ships and I am sure they could re-dedicate some of it to a Super O2, Silver 02, or 1802, or pick whatever name for this age bracket that works, but the main idea is to NOT FORGET these kids! Comments welcome..... (but please, please don't tell me that these kids should just be happy to be on the cruise OK)

This was the original post...it was all about creating a "club" for 18 to 20 year olds. Nothing about a meet and greet, etc.

Besides...at what point does Carnival draw the line for meet and greets. If they sponsor one for this age group what about single twenty somethings...or 30 somethings that are wanting to hook up, or seniors who want someone to keep them company.

Carnival (and many cruise lines) host gatherings for all sorts of groups. I am on the Freedom and the schedule from Monday is right here. It includes at least 3 "Your Time" events - friends of Bill w. And Jimmy K, LGBT, and 18+ singles mingle. I know I have also seen something for 40+ singles. So they already offer events for specific demographics. Wouldn't be a big stretch to do something similar for this young adult group and maybe designated one of the little used lounges as a hangout spot for that age. On Freedom, both the Habana Bar and the piano bar are almost always empty.

Not all lines offer something like Club O2, but having a son that age, it is a point of differentiation that makes carnival a desirable choice. Many kids over 18 are still in school, live at home, and travel on family vacations like they always did. I'd guess 90% of the people in that age group on cruises are traveling with their families. There is a potential market there to keep young adults in the cruising population instead of them feeling out of place and looking for other vacation choices (or their entire family may even start looking outside of cruising for vacations).

I think there is nothing wrong with carnival or any line looking at what is valuable to their target market and testing out ways to enhance the experience for those customers. If a young adult club has traction supported by market research, little to lose testing out some ideas.

And I'll assume that you are being facetious with tongue planted firmly in cheek.:D

Id bet my last dollar that young adults who have graduated from the confines of high school and are into the freedoms of adulthood wouldn't be to excited about being "clubbed" and set apart on a cruise ship. It sounds more like there are some parents who are still concerned about their "now adult" children moving beyond the confines of the boundaries they would like to set (ie: not being friends with those over 21...you know people who may drink and may offer temptation to their little ones).

I've seen many a young adult perfectly happy to hang with their parents, or even grandparents on a cruise and no longer need the stimulii of "kids" their own age to have fun. If they need that they will find a friend to travel with them or they will just stay home (that is if helicoptering parents will let them).

Bingo!

They can't drink or go to serenity or go to the teen clubs.

Whatever will they do?

Maybe they could get the fun times and do what other adults do?

If I had problems with my kids getting bored on the ship, they would not have that problem the next time I cruised. I don't pay for bored kids.

They do have singles meet and greets already.

Its someone picking a time and a place and putting a line in the compus, not that difficult

So...Carnival now adds a program for 18 to 20 year olds so that parents don't have to worry about their little darling getting mixed up with horrible adults who may gamble, or drink, or be a bit rambunctious on vacation. So, what makes 21 the "magic" age to be allowed to now run freely with the wanton older generation or should parents be allowed to enroll 21 to 25 year olds that still live at home and still travel with their parents. (Isn't 25 the magic age where kids do not have to travel with a supervising adult).

Parents just need to take a back seat and let their young adults work out something for themselves...ya know, untie those proverbial apron strings and let your adult children figure out what is right for them.
