Tortola Excursions

We are planning on the Escape in February, which includes Tortola. Really looking forward to it as we have never been and it is getting hard to find a port we haven't been in. However, we do not want any tours that include beach stops. Any ideas?

The beaches of Tortola are gorgeous, but an island tour is a great way to see the beauty of Tortola.

The Baths on Virgin Gorda are a must-see for first-time visitors, beach time isn't necessarily part of the main experience, you can walk through the boulders then take anisland tour there with a nice lunch at the Mine Shaft Cafe.

There are excellent daysails (Patouche, Kuralu, Aristocat) to both the east and west areas of the BVI for snorkeling, beach bars, or just a nice day on the water.

At least one cruise line offers a sea and land excursion which includes a boat ride to West End for shopping/strollng and is followed by an island tour.

And of course you can go to Jost Van Dyke for a beach bar day.

What interests do you have?

The drivers offering island tours at the dock have different options that are quite reasonably-priced and you can choose one that's more about the history and also offers excellent photo ops from the hilltops. These are group tours in the open-sided safari taxis, for something more private in a van you'll pay a bit more of course.

There are some nice little shops within walking distance of the ship, we like Sunny Caribbee which has some very nice spices and rubs. And Pusser's Pub is a great English-style eatery (bangers & mash and shepherd's pie) which also has some unique clothing. Downtown itself is not really interesting as it is primarily financial businesses, you're better off staying near the port area unless you want to visit the botanical gardens...

The catamarans I mentioned are all excellent and even if you don't snorkel can be a very nice day on the water...you'd have to contact them for times and itineraries to see if anything interests you. If NCL lists the sea and land excursion to West End (Soper's Hole) and then an island tour that may work, although I don't know what kind of shade is provided on the boat.
