Semi-Live 8 Day Quantum Sailing 4-24 to Bahamas

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am seadog67 and have been a lurker/small time poster on Cruise Critic since back in 2007 when we took our first cruise on NCL Spirit out of NY. I did cruise previously on Celebrity Horizon in 2004 but was not on Cruise Critic at that time.

Since that Spirit Cruise in 2007 we have since taken 25 additional cruises over the past 8 years, sampling most major lines at least once. During these years I have enjoyed soo many trip reports/live froms/reviews on this board that I feel it necessary to offer my own report / live from to payback all the generosity of others. So this will be my first Cruise Semi-Live report from Quantum which we booked just this past Friday, mainly based on the live froms by Radio / Bugsy (with gibbs :) ) and DMKid. I previously did a live report from Las Vegas for 3 days that turned out ok, so I am hopeful this report can do justice to all the wonderful posters who have done so in the past on Cruise Critic.

I am starting this thread now as it is crunch time over the next two days and wanted to create this semi background on my computer, and I will be using tapatalk for Iphone and Ipad and hopefully providing Videos on the fly, and pictures along with some written impressions.

One word of note is I have not done a live from report from a cruise ship so a lot of the content will depend on the internet connection especially any video, as the Vegas report had the benefit of constant cell service. Heres hoping I can provide a constant stream of updates regularly.

I will be cruising with my better half, also known as the wife, and we have resy's for many of the restaurants but none of the shows at this time as I think we booked to late and many are sold out I guess,so I will be attending them on a walk up basis, so hopefully we get to see at least a few of them.

So enough rambling, thanks for checking in hopefully and I hope to begin live posts Friday morning with the luggage load-out and the drive up to Bayonne from South Jersey. Seadog67 out for now...

The route is the 8 night Bahamas Cruise stopping at Port Canaveral, Cococay, and Nassau. Current excursions booked for Port Canaveral is the shuttle to Disney for the day as we dock at 6:30am and leave at 9:30PM so we have a nice long stay.

The second port is CocoCay, which will be our first visit to this private island after seeing it multiple time off in the distance from NCL's Private Island. No plans but to relax on the beach and get in the water hopefully.

Our last stop is Nassau, and the plan is to hop a taxi over to Atlantis and do the water park with the lazy river and slides and possibly make a donation to the casino.

On sea days, we plan to explore the ship in detail and you should get pictures and vids from each stop and of the ship and if we are lucky, some snapshots of some wins in the casino nightly. :D

More to follow..

Having booked last minute, last Friday to be exact, we did not have much choice in cabins and we ended up in D6 Superior Ocean View with Balcony Cabin # 11688.

Trying to fit everything into my suitcase and a garment bag, with a few items left, I am hoping to get one more trip out our current luggage without having an explosion from the worn sides :)

Cannot forget my lucky cruise keychain won at a putt putt golf tourney on Freedom several years ago either.

These were our first glimpse of Quantum during last Thanksgiving week, on a cruise we took on NCL Breakaway to the Bahamas, Quantum was docking next to us and I was able to snap a few pics. Did not think we would get on her so soon as we had other trips booked. Needless to say we are stoked to go:

GPS is loaded and one more day of work and we will be own our way.

One other interesting point is 3 weeks after returning from Quantum we sail NCL Gem on the same route swapping private Islands, so it will be interesting to note the differences sailing so close together. If this semi-live report goes ok, I will try and do one from the Gem to offer comparisons even though they are a different breed of ship in a way.

One more work day...

Good Morning Cruise Critic and welcome to Day 1 of our 8 day sailing on Quantum of the Seas to the Bahamas. Trying to provide my first Semi-Live Report following such an epic report as provided by Bugsy over the past 12 days, ( I Highly recommend you search out his thread and give it a read if you have not, it is most excellent), may be a bit redundant as how many pictures can you see of the same ship. However, hopefully there will be some different things to see and different experiences to report on similar venues as such.

Also, having done a live from before, I love re-reading them later to relive the trip so I have sort of a chronicle for myself as well.

Luggage is packed and ready for load out:

And cameras are charged and about to be packed for the haul up to Bayonne:

I have for cameras, a GoPro Hero 3+, Sony RX100, and a Sony Nex-7 Aplha. Lenses for the Nex-7 include:

Carl Zeiss 1,8/24 Lens

55-210 Standard Telephoto Lens

2.8/16 Wide Angle Lens

In addition to my Iphone 6 plus and Ipad mini. I hope to be able to post enough to earn the semi-live title of this report but we know that depends on the connection at sea, but recent reports seem to suggest the connections are good enough.

Thanks for following and look for the next report from the road in several hours.
