Rare Got2Cruise Posted May 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2015 Arriving a day early for our Sept 2015 NCL cruise. We will have limited luggage and was wondering if we should stay close to port or find one elsewhere? We decided to stay near San Marco Square because we can wander and listen to the music and see everything lit up at night. Yes it costs more for both lodging and transportation but we will get more of the Venice experience staying in that area. I booked a walking tour for the day we arrive and the Secret Doge Palace for the next morning before the cruise. Hoping to fit a gondola ride. Taking a water taxi from airport to hotel is very scenic and enjoyable also. That's my reasoning to stay away from port
mapleleaves Posted May 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2015 if you can easily manage your luggage you aren't limited to the Piazzale Roma area .... you can stay anywhere! So look for whatever lodging suits your budget and requirements. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/venice-hotels.htm The ATVO Express bus from the airport will drop you off at PRoma; 7E, 20 minutes. From there walk a block to the Grand Canal where you can hop on a water bus. Or take the Alilaguna from the airport if you want to approach Venice from the water. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/hotelmaps/
harryw Posted May 25, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2015 We stayed pre-cruise near the main square at Locanda Orseolo a few years ago. The luggage wasn't an issue...after transferring from airport to the square via water, "porters" with hand carts were waiting to carry the luggage to the hotel, and they were available for hotel to ship. We loved the hotel so much, we're staying there post cruise in July. Harry
