bearchele2 Posted July 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2015 We are going on IOS in a few weeks. We are flying in early and renting a car. We were thinking of returning it the night before and grabbing a cab to port. We are at the Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale. Will we have a long wait getting a cab in the morning to get to the pier? Clarea Posted July 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2015 There will probably be cabs waiting in front of the hotel.

We've done this several times, and there is little to no wait for a cab. The last time, in April, we went out the front door and asked for a cab, the shuttle driver was standing there and said he could run us over, I asked him when he was leaving and he said he would take us immediately, we had the shuttle all to ourselves. It's a very fast trip...you can see the cruise ships from the Embassy Suites.
Grandma Dazzles Posted July 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2015 Shuttle is usually there and "offers" to take you. You are supposed to sign up at the concierge desk, but you don't really have to .....they will usually take everyone. However, it is $8 per person .......unless you are traveling solo it is definitely cheaper and easier to take a cab. The cabs are usually hanging around ......hotel staff/doorman can call one. Never waited more than a few minutes.

The only thing different was another couple was walking out with us and The Concierge told us $10 a couple for the shuttle. We both took it. mollyeilis Posted July 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2015 Your mileage will vary! We did sign up for the shuttle, and waited, outside, in the October heat, for nearly an hour for our shuttle. We were on Vision and there were two or three BIG ships embarking, and those ships got priority. There were no shuttles sitting there empty; they were all sitting there slowly filling up while taxi after taxi left. Take the taxi!

I wasn't recommending the shuttle, just relating a recent happening. There is no real reason to take the shuttle as the cab ride is short and cheap. I can't imagine sitting outside in the heat for an hour when the Embassy Suites has such a beautiful lobby, nicely air conditioned, to sit in.
