Drinks on Us - machines/tables only?

Hi!

I've qualified for Drinks on Us when I board my cruise in August.

Do you have to be at a machine or table to get the free drink or can you walk up to the casino bar and get one?

Thanks in advance!

While playing, as noted. Not by walking up to the casino bar.

What I found disappointing was that I wanted a Thirsty Frog draft, but that wasn't included. It has to be drinks from the casino bar, and that was in the Sports bar.

Twice I have been in CCL casinos and the server would walk to the closest bar that served "frog"and would get me one. We normally tip a dollar a drink and try to be friendly and let everyone who works in the casino know we want to a have a drink in front of us when we are gambling.

On the Sunshine the host was absolutely wonderful and when she gave us our drink cards she actually personally got me a a "frog". I know the sunshine is smokey but we had a great time in that casino.

You can not order from the bar, you must order from the servers who walk around. Technically, you should be playing as well. However, most of them do not care if you are currently playing. Sit down at a slot, put your card in (the card must be in, they will need to push a button to get your folio number) and they will take your drink order.

If you tip and make friends with a server or two, they may not even care about whether your card is in a machine. They will learn your folio or just ask you for it quickly.

And twice (two different sailings) I was told that the drink had to come from the casino bar only (which didn't serve Frog). :(

Yes, I also tip on the "free" drinks. That hasn't had anything to do with the service I receive (which has been excellent although slow (they're busy!) and except for the no Frog).

"Drinks on Us"...is this something new? I've always gotten free drinks in the casinos of all the ships I've sailed on whether I've sat at a machine or table. Are they now not free unless you have a "Drinks on Us" card? What qualifies you for such a thing? Please say it ain't so!:( Also, what cruise line are you going on that this is the case?

Carnival doesn't offer free drinks in the casino unless you have the "Drinks on Us" card. You get it after accumulating a certain number of play points. It's been that way for awhile. A casino manager may buy a drink for a player on an ad hoc basis, but the card is the only way to get drinks at will.

I've sailed and played in the casino on Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity and have never seen free drinks handed out to everyone in the casino on any ship. On Royal, you can redeem some of your points for a free drink, and Carnival has the Drinks on Us card. But free drinks to everyone playing - never seen it.

You need to earn 1500 points for a Drinks on Us (DOU) card.

I hope I didn't come across as doubting what you were saying. I was just trying to say that maybe the servers could be convinced to walk to the nearest bar with thirsty frog.

I am sure as with all things Carnival it varies from ship to ship and even server to server.

I am just glad they finally offer some means to get comped drinks. I remember one time years ago on the Fantasy, the guy next to me was in the casino every minute they were open. I know because I was too. He was playing two hands of Blackjack at $200.00 a hand. On the third day he asked for a free scotch and water. The pit boss responded we never comp drinks. The $200.00 player was livid. I mean he was just flabbergasted.

The deal is the casinos on cruise ships have a captive audience. You can't just walk next door to the next casino.

I think now that there are so many land based casinos the cruise casinos are finally starting to treat the players a little better.
