E&B Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We're new to Carnival. We're thinking of buying Cruise Cash ahead of time for our kids accounts. What are the advantages or disadvantages of Cruise Cash vs. just depositing cash on the card the first day? If Cruise Cash is unused (which it may be for one of the three) is it refunded? lizwasko Posted July 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Just deposit money, it's refundable. As was mentioned in another post, cruise cash costs money to get money on the card. Look closely at the offer and you decide. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
ready2cruzagain Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I would use cash. Cruise cash is non refundable, use it or lose it. I personally would not take that chance.

LSUcajunmom Posted July 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I use cruise cash as a way of saving money for upcoming cruise. I use it as a savings acct for spending money. $100 a month for 6 months and then I walk on the ship w my spending money already there and no need to put money on my acct. I am also a gambler and receive most of my cruises thru the casino, so the money put on is for casino purposes. I also usually end up putting more cash onto my acct once onboard. They will deduct purchases first from the cruise cash, once that is all spent they take from CC/cash. I had $33 left on my acct and they mailed me a check for it. TheBubbs Posted July 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I used cruise cash last cruise and had no problem getting money out at the end of the cruise. I went to the casino, entered the amount on my SS on a slot, did a pull, then downloaded money back to the card and went to the window to cash out. No issues for me. I liked being able to buy the cash prior to sailing, and not having to carry lots of cash with me on vaca.
cb at sea Posted July 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Just put the cash you will allow them to spend on their account when you board. That's the easiest way. As far as carrying cash...large bills take up little space...the ship will break down large bills into smaller denominations for you.
EMMOM Posted July 27, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Hello I was wondering if I purchase cruise cash for someone as a surprise, does anyone know if there will be anything left in the cabin the day they embark letting them know they have cruise cash on their account? rocking-m-cruiser Posted July 27, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes you will get a statement under the door. You can also tune into your account on the cabin TV.
tm3750 Posted July 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) My wife and a girlfriend are cruising on the Victory out of Port Canaveral next April 14, 2016. Never having been on that ship before can anyone tell me a few things that know the ship? 1. Do you know when it is being moved to Port Canaveral? 2. When was its last Dry dock and what was done to it? 3. Lastly they have a 4J cabin #9302 has anyone been in one of these cabins? It looks larger than all the others. Thanks for any info you can give me Edited July 27, 2015 by tm3750

nurseamanda Posted July 27, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes, when you buy the cruise cash it gives you a spot to add a message and when it will be "delivered". When I bought it last cruise, there were little printed out cards in the room announcing we received cruise cash.

I think they would have a hard time cashing out at the casino.
drolltroll Posted August 8, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Cruise Cash is just another way to help separate you from your hard earned dollars. I will never understand it myself, cruise cash, photo cash, bar cash...... I guess what happens is folks do not want a huge sign and sail bill at the end, so since you pay for some of it up front, it don't hurt as bad but all I see is for that to be a way Carnival gets you to overspend! Unless you are using cash yourself and spouse, just add the kids to your account on your credit card. You can set a spend limit for the cruise, different for each child, if you like, and adjust it as necessary. Do set a spending cap because the arcade can be a $$$ eater. If you set up individual cash accounts, keep in mind that the daily gratuities will be charged each day against each separate account unless you pre-paid the gratuities. If the kids (and spouse, I presume) are on your credit card with a spend limit for the kids, the gratuities will all go on your card and not affect the spending limits you set.
