JanBubbles Posted September 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I am new to cruising and was wondering about the captains' rotation. Are they on for so many weeks or months and then off for the same amount? Are the other crew members on the same rotation?
rubrrick Posted September 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2005 Captains rotation or relief? I have been told that a captain will stay with a ship for a period of 2 years before being rotated to another ship. The captains normal work span is 3 months on and 3 months off. Other officers have different contracts and time spans. Cabin stewards and waiters and others work a contract as long as 9 months on, a period of time off, and then on to the next 9 month contract. cheerdawg Posted September 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I wondered the same thing. I have heard that captains are on for 17 weeks (or 3 1/2 months) then off for the same amount of time. I would like to sail again with the same crew as the last time, but don't know how to find out either. I also wonder how often do captains change ships or do they? I'm kinda new at this, too! JanBubbles Posted September 23, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted September 23, 2005 The question about finding out how to sail again with a particular captain/crew has crossed my mind also. I hope someone will post information on how to find out who the captain would be on the Sovereign at a certain time.
wolfcathorse Posted September 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2005 I think for privacy and security reasons, we'll never find out personal info about the captains. They have to be protected from their groupies! I do wish RCI simply posted in their brochure who the captain was for a particular date, just like they list the other ship specs. cheerdawg Posted September 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2005 Hmmmm.....captain's groupie!! Is that job open? Captain Loekling is a cutie-pie and he told us that he was single. All the girls in our group had a major crush on him!! We definitely want to sail with him again. Wonder when he's back on the Sovereign?
wolfcathorse Posted September 27, 2005 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2005 Both Capt Loekling and Capt George make me forget I'm married. How lucky captain wives are! Imgaine, they only have to put up with him 3 months at a time (6 months per year)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
Ericknow32 Posted September 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2005 I was told by a captain that captains make up their own schedule with the other captain on the ship. Basically the captain can divide up his schedule however he wishes as long as he works six months out of the year and the other captain agrees.
