barbaro_3003 Posted August 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2015 So, we are on the Ecstasy at the end of next month, which will call Cozumel. My 9-year-old daughter mentioned how interesting it would be to see Maya ruins. The cruise offers the Tulum tour, but here is the catch; The tour lists as 7 hours. We are in Cozumel from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM. The Tulum site closes at 5 PM per their website. By my calculations, there is no time; If we arrive at 1:30, lets say the tour group would actually start moving at 2 PM, 45 min ferry ride, 1 hour bus ride (if the estimates can be believed) means we arrive at Tulum site at around 3:45-4:00 PM. 45 min for the guided tour of the ruins puts us at 4:30-4:45. According to the description on Carnival's website, you then have 45 min to explore on your own, but there doesn't seem to be time for that, as that puts us past the 5 PM closing time. That's not including the stop at the "cooperative" for souvenirs. Has anyone done this tour with a later-in-the-day port arrival? I'm worried about spending almost $400 for a bus ride, a boat ride, and a rushed walk around the ruins. Opinions/insights? Thanks. Eric
JohninDC Posted August 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2015 I would save the Mayan ruins for a different port or a land vacation to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. This sounds like a long and expensive trip to not have the time to see much. :(
dallas52 Posted August 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2015 we did it a few years ago and it was a long day, we docked early in the day.
ABQrobin Posted August 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Tulum is one of the smallest ruins in the area.. you can really see it in an hour. Most of the tour time is spent in travel, bus and ferry, along with shopping stops.
jaspbri0317 Posted August 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2015 yes I agree, the Tulum ruins are very small compared to some of the bigger pyramids. definitely doable in an hour or less. we walked around a little and then descended a steep flight of stairs down to the beach...still the most beautiful beach I've ever seen in my life
