Salacia Posted February 22, 2016 #52 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) According to reports, Chilean police detectives boarded QM2 last week in Valparaiso as part of their investigation into the death of Favio Onate who was a citizen of Chile. R'man Posted February 29, 2016 #53 Share Posted February 29, 2016 There was supposed to be a demonstration at the port in Valparaiso on Feb 17th. We disembarked at about 10 AM and saw nothing. The ship was moored more than a mile from the terminal, with the street view largely blocked by stacked containers. Any drinking prohibition has obviously ended. On our recent QM2 voyage a good number of the crew was pounding down at Amber Cove from passed around handles of Black Jack and Beam. Frankly, it was a good example of why the "help" shouldn't be intermingling with the paying customers. Knots of crew members sought shade under the foot bridges along the swimway as comfortable places to congregate, drink and smoke. The overall impression was not good. The main pool and bar were largely inhabited by crew, and few were drinking mineral water. It was not a welcoming situation for passengers. More than a few left shortly after arriving in the pool area. I understand the need for crew to "let off steam." Nonetheless, there should have been some level of segregation at this large facility. 1.75 litre bottles should not be passed around in the pool area like hobos in a freight yard. It appeared to be an orderly demonstration. Bob
