I have heard of these and I think they are found in the Lakes districts in Chile around Puerto Montt and other places. They are basically a horse fly. We have similar flies in the US just not in the same quantity. I have been told that they are attracted to dark colors. Make sure you have something to shoo them off handy. jc
roberts2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 26, 2005 When we visited Ayers Rock in Australia, my wife wore a hat with netting, as did many others, to keep flies away from her face.

BCHappyGal Posted October 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Yes we ran into them in January 2006 on our tour of the area from our cruise ship the Infinity. They are more annoying than anything else. Yes they seem to be attracted to dark blue. We only saw them during our stop for lunch in the rural area of the lakes district - not in any of the towns. Just perfect the Aussie Wave and you are all set.
