What's Your Cruise Routine?

1) Get on the ship.

2) For the next seven days do whatever I decide I want to do right now.

3) Unfortunately get off of the ship.

The end

I love this answer. This is exactly what we do. One rule that we try to follow, is use the stairs as much as possible.

Add one more to this list. Book another cruise as soon as possible. It lessens the post-cruise blues.

8. Once a day I tell a bartender to make me their favorite drink. Cool way to learn new favorites!

I really like this idea!

Our cruise routine always includes eating lunch at the Buffett, for some reason we love the crowded craziness on embarkation day.

Buy our spa passes.

Explore every inch of the ship. Still so exciting even though we have been on many cruise ships!

After muster, I run to grab the best table, usually aft past the Buffett, while hubby grabs some adult beverages and snacks for watching sail away.

Always book a balcony room. Balconies are great for room service breakfasts, drinking wine while watching the sunset, and after a wonderful night of dinner, shows, and gambling it's nice to go outside and say good night to the ocean and give thanks for my many blessings.:)

1. We hit the gym/run most mornings and we never take the elevator.

2. On port days, after returning to the ship, we find a good spot 30 minutes before departure to watch the latecomers run or stumble for the ship. Then we listen for the announcements of people that haven't checked in from their day away. We have seen people miss the boat and have to get tendered out. One young man was shirtless and shoeless.

3. On the last day, after breakfast, we sneak around and peek in the suites while the stewards are cleaning for the next cruise. One of these days, hopefully someone will be peeking in our suite at the end of the cruise.

1. This one is rough, but we do it anyway. We get up and hit the bar as soon as it opens each day. We do this to keep a routine. It's the only reliable way to avoid a hangover.

2. On warm sea days after a breakfast at Cagney's consisting of Bloody Marys and Crabcakes Benedict, we find two warm barstools on or near the pool deck. We commence to people watching and snickering under our breath. We try not to point. Usually will head back to the suite two-fisted for a nap.

3. On port days, we hit the bar first thing before leaving to go ashore. A nice calm buzz is best. We also enjoy a room service breakfast, and we make sure to finish any leftover cocktails in the room before heading out.

I AM DYING HERE!! Omg!

I guess I have a different ritual than most

1. Always have lunch on embankment day in the MDR

2. Every morning wake up walk to the waterfront grab a coffee from urn on the bar and have a couple of cigarettes and talk to the same people that I see out there every day.

3. On Sea days head to the casino.

4. Figure out where to have breakfast and then just let the day and night play out

My last cruise was just my hubby and I, and he doesn't smoke. I really appreciated the company of my morning cigarette buddies!

When you check in at the maitre'd desk in the main dining room, tell them you're willing to share. They are always grateful to accommodate you, because there too many people, not enough tables. In fact, at peak times, it can greatly shorten your wait-time for dinner.

The types of cruises we go on usually attract an older demographic, and the shared tables tend to match the demographic. We've had some younger couples at dinner, but usually it's middle-aged folks who are close to, but haven't retired yet. We are 70 now, although you wouldn't guess it. But we've been doing this for 15 years and have always met a disparate, interesting group. Sometimes people we don't like, but it's still interesting, and we can always laugh about it later.

Another option that they don't publicize: Sign up at Guest Services for the Dinner-with-an-Officer lottery. Everybody wins--it's just that you sometimes get a low-level officer. But it's always interesting and involves a free specialty dinner, great service, and unlimited free wine.

Thanks for the tip about the Dinner-with-an-Officer Lottery. We never heard about it before, but will look into it. Can a group of four do it?

My favorite cruise tradition actually happens the night before.

Once we check-in at the hotel near the port, we'll hit the hotel bar and have our kick-off cocktails. It's that deep-sigh transition - the exact moment when all of the frantic preparation and travel are left behind and the unobstructed anticipation is fully sensed. Bliss!

Perfect!! We do the same thing [emoji4]. Also...

1. We take the stairs all the time. This is in lieu of going to the gym every morning [emoji23]. The only time I won't is if I'm in skinny high heels. Not even packing a pair for our April 2nd cruise on the Escape!

2. Grab a nice glass of wine and watch as we sail away from port, either from our balcony or a bar with a view. Would love to hit the Cellars on the waterfront for this in April.

3. Day of embarkation we walk the entire ship to get our bearings. Drink in hand of course!

Great thread, thanks!
