GreeniePrincess Posted January 31, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2016 We are heading on a southern Caribbean cruise at the end of February with St. Thomas as one of our stops. We were on Coki beach last summer (end of May) and it seemed to be largely mosquito free. I'm considering becoming pregnant/could be pregnant, and with all of the news about Zika virus, I was wondering if mosquitoes are typically a problem this time of year. We were thinking of Sapphire beach this trip, but I'd like to go wherever I have the least possibility of running into swarms of mosquitoes. I plan to take proper precautions (long sleeves, bug spray), and it was too late to cancel the cruise by the time the outbreak hit. Suggestions please? sail7seas Posted February 1, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) I have heard news reports that say the Zika carrying mosquitoes have been identified in San Juan and St. Thomas. Speak with your doctor for the best advice as to how big a risk. Some cruise lines are giving refunds or allowing rescheduling as are some airlines. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2016 Is that the only place you are going on during the cruise? I would also consult with your physician. Keith

6rugrats Posted February 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2016 It is not "too late" to cancel on RCCL. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/search/processSearch.do?ip_server=prdiphrase-unstruct-new222.dmz.rccl.com%3A200&ip_text=Zika
GreeniePrincess Posted February 5, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Thank you all. After doing a lot more research and confirming that I am pregnant, on the advice of my doctor, I did cancel the trip. However my other family members have decided to continue with the trip as Royal Caribbean would not refund their money as the travel restrictions at this time only apply to pregnant women and Royal Caribbean will only offer cruise credit to those in the same room as pregnant travelers. I appreciate everyone's assistance and concern!
sail7seas Posted February 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Congratulations on your pregnancy and best wishes. You made a very wise decision. Your baby's well being is far more important than any cruise. :)
