Any suggestions for do it yourself sightseeing in Airlie Beach and surrounds. Active but not into water sports, also any good food suggestions have heard the sailing club is good particularly like seafood.

Airlie Beach is predominately a water-sport port-of-call ... lots of things to do on the water there. However, you can explore the Airlie Beach area on foot. There is the Bicentennial Boardwalk that follows the waterline from Cannonvale Beach, around past the marina and finishes at the Sailing Club. In total the boardwalk is 3.7km. There is also a track up the Airlie Beach hill. Called the Airlie Creek Track, it's less that a kilometre in length but the walk up the hill to the start of it and then the walk itself will definitely get your blood pumping. But the views along the way are very nice. Of course, you could just wander around the shops while at Airlie - lots of toursity shops and lots of bars and restaurants to grab a drink or eat. We had a really nice pizza at Mangrove Jacks and a nice meal (great seafood platter entree - though the main meals were a bit pricey) at Sorrentos at Abel Point Marina (there is probably a surcharge for the view, which was spectacular).

If you wanted to go further afield, you could head to Conway National Park. Again, good walking tracks which will afford you lovely views out towards the Whitsunday Islands. There might be local buses that could get you out to the Park - you'd have to check with the Information Centre for that.

Good luck!

The last time we were there,we caught the local bus at the cruise terminal and went to Proserpine to the museum that had some very interesting films and exhibits. The bus driver will tell you where to hop off to walk to the museum and where and when to catch the bus for the return trip.
