Desdichado62 Posted September 15, 2016 Author #302 Share Posted September 15, 2016 An article (in Swedish) about the unusually warm September. http://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/september-varmare-an-augusti-pa-vissa-hall?cmpid=del:pd:ny:20160915:september-varmare-an-augusti-pa-vissa-hall:nyh http://www.svt.se/nyheter/vetenskap/el-ni-o-bakom-europeisk-varmebolja?cmpid=del:pd:ny:20160915:el-ni-o-bakom-europeisk-varmebolja:nyh It's the warmest September (and August to some extent) since the 1930's Halmstad (on the southern west coast) had it's warmest September day since they started measuring the temperatures in the 19th century. They had 27.5 degrees Celsius today, while Gothenburg "only" had 27 degrees.
Desdichado62 Posted October 3, 2016 Author #303 Share Posted October 3, 2016 If you are in Stockholm dduring the winter, why not visit the Royal wedding dress exhibition at Royal Palace. The exhibition opens on October 18th and closes on March 16th. http://www.kungahuset.se/royalcourt/visittheroyalpalaces/news/newsroyalpalaces/royalweddingdressesnewexhibitionopens18october.5.3349628b155104ecc345de.html

Desdichado62 Posted November 14, 2016 Author #306 Share Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) next year's vessel calls have been published. To see all cruise ship calls in Stockholm/Nynäshamn in 2017, goto http://www.portsofstockholm.com/vessel-calls/ then adjust the display filter accordingly to the image below: (the image is quite small, apologies for that, but Photobucket seems to shrink the images. I have also decided that this thread will have to do for next year as well, most of the info is still valid. Important dates are not correct but the only really important changes are: Midsummer holiday which year happens at June 23rd - 25th. Stockholm Maraton June 3rd. Ascension day is May 25. All other days will be on the same date (but different weekday). A complete list of important days will be published later. Desdichado62 Posted November 15, 2016 Author #307 Share Posted November 15, 2016 The ticket system in Stockholm will change on January 1st. The zone system will be removed and all single tickets will cost 30SEK, however the time limit for free transfer is lowered to 75 min*. This means that you are very unlikely to be able to re-use the commuter train ticket on a bus journey upon arrival in central Stockholm. *time limit means that you are able to start unlimited amount of new journeys within the stipulated time frame, no matter how long the final journey is. http://sl.se/sv/info/nyheter/nya-priser-2017/?date=true If you have a student ID or if you are 65 years old or older you are entitled to reduced price. Desdichado62 Posted January 10, 2017 Author #312 Share Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) New york times lists Stockholm as the nr 16 place to goto in the world in their "52 places to goto in 2017"-list. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/travel/places-to-visit.html?place=stockholm&_r=1 16. Stockholm, Sweden Scandinavia need not be a wallet-buster. Free state-owned museums will make visits to Sweden’s capital less expensive in 2017. Over a dozen dropped their hefty entry fees last year, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Natural History, the Swedish History Museum and Skokloster Castle. Add to that a favorable exchange rate for Americans — the krona is about 20 percent weaker against the dollar than it was two years ago — and this beautiful city suddenly looks even more attractive. — Ingrid K. Desdichado62 Posted January 19, 2017 Author #313 Share Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) There is a small but important change (which took effect in December) in the bus traffic in Stockholm for buses 54 and 69 at the Central station. The stop for these two buses have been moved from Klarabergsgatan to Mäster Samuelsgatan. However I don't know exactly where on Mäster Samuelsgatan the bus stop will be. Map link with directions from Central station to Mäster Samuelsgatan. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3303004,18.0592474/59.3318858,18.0586097/59.3328289,18.0621565/@59.3318672,18.0590538,143m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e2 The change will be in effect until sometime next year when the roadworks at Klarabergsgatan and the major renovation of Sergelstorg are expected to be finished. TravelingAPor Posted January 20, 2017 #314 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Thank You Desdichado62 for a very informative thread. I just started to look for info on Stockholm. What is nearby to the ship pier? Anything within walking distance? Thank You for any suggestions you may have.
Desdichado62 Posted January 21, 2017 Author #315 Share Posted January 21, 2017 It depends on where the ship berths but normally the main priorities are possible to walk to but it's quite far.Public transport is recommended.
Johhno Posted January 29, 2017 #316 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Hi Desdichado62, firstly thank you for your great information on this Thread, your like having our own tourist guide on line. I have been reading your previous posts and would like your info on our own plans for the below. Arriving 14th July Regal Princess @ S167. 7.00am -2.00pm. We would like to head straight to the Vasa Museum and then back to Gamla Stan to visit Place/old town etc . Plans are, 1. Slussen to Allmänna gränd (ferry)then walk to Vasa.(hoho or Emelie) Any idea what time the first ferries leave and are they direct. 2. Allmänna gränd to Slussen (ferry) Is it really this easy or have I missed something. Thanks in advance Cheers Johhno.

I would recommend the HoHo-boats or M/S Emelie in your case. since it's a quite long walk to Djurgårdsfärjan. The HoHo-boats are supposed to meet up with the cruise ship when it arrives and then do a direct shuttle service to Vasa. M/S Emelie will do her first tour at 07.28 from Masthamnen (outer most point of S167). 2. Yes the ferry (Djurgårdsfärjan) is the best option here. Summer time tables are not available yet though and probably won't be until April-May. 3. Back to the ship - walk, bus or taxi. Desdichado62 Posted January 29, 2017 Author #318 Share Posted January 29, 2017 I forgot to say that the Emelie times is also the winter schedule so the actual time of departure might be different during the summer.
Johhno Posted January 29, 2017 #319 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Thanks Desdichado62 for your prompt reply. A couple more questions if I can. Is there an actual Ferry stop at the Vasa Museum or is it Allmänna gränd. Also you mentioned, " The HoHo-boats are supposed to meet up with the cruise ship when it arrives and then do a direct shuttle service to Vasa." Would this service still be from Slussen and do we just purchase tickets on board. Thanks in advance. Cheers Johhno

During the morning the hoho-boats only stops at Vasa. Vasa http://kartor.eniro.se/m/0pATL Allmänna gränd http://kartor.eniro.se/m/DCE4T
Desdichado62 Posted January 31, 2017 Author #321 Share Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) "Why You Should Take Ferries In These Three Popular Sailing Spots" Stockholm Archipelago Swedes are born sailors, further evidenced by the fact that Stockholm residents can participate in a free summer program called “everyone can sail.” Many city dwellers have access to a boat and a summer cottage or cabin in the nearby Stockholm Archipelago. Stretching deep into the Baltic Sea, the island chain ranges from 8000 to 30,000 in total, depending on whether each rock sporting a blade of grass gets counted. Gotland Not technically part of the Archipelago, you can still sail to the atmospheric island of Gotland via ferry (or cheat and take a short flight to and from Stockholm). Connect from Utö Island via Nynäshamn on the mainland to pick up the Destination Gotland ferry line. The sail takes three hours, has working wifi, and serves surprisingly good food. https://www.forbes.com/sites/lmowery/2017/01/30/why-you-should-take-ferries-in-these-three-popular-sailing-spots/#54d161cd1e49 Edited January 31, 2017 by Desdichado62
Colorfulco2 Posted February 1, 2017 #322 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Our Princess ship is in dock 7 to 2, very short hours in Nynashamn. What is best way to get to Vasa Museum, and will we have time to go to Gamla Stan and get back to the ship in such a short time? Thanks.

What is best way to get to Vasa Museum, and will we have time to go to Gamla Stan and get back to the ship in such a short time? Thanks. If I may say so, something isn't right here. When the ship berths at Nynäshamn it arrives at 07.00 and leaves at 19.000 (12 hours). It is only when they berth in Stockholm that you should expect a 07-14 berth time. Such as 2017-05-20 when she is expected to berth at Frihamnen. 2017-05-31 and when she is expected to berth at Stadsgården. That means if you have a berth time from 7 to 14, then your berth location is central Stockholm and not Nynäshamn.
