Hello,

Well, after many attempts to get one booked, Carnival has actually cancelled my last rebooked cruise due to it turning into a charter. Got the letter via email but no deadline date as to when to call your PVP; I was going out of town the next day and I recently just got back. Received another email letter which caused me to call my PVP, as the remaining money I had paid on the cruise was from gift cards. According to her, when a cruise gets cancelled due to it turning into a charter, money from gift cards gets refunded back to the company (i.e., AmEx) which issued the card. Now I have to see if I still have those cards in a box I was using for saved vacation stuff and see what AmEx will do for me. The reason for my seemingly "dragging my feet" was due to not being able to come to a decision with my then fiancé as to which itinerary to choose; thankfully we're not together anymore. However, having recently gotten engaged again, to someone else and someone much better, we were looking forward to booking a wedding / honeymoon cruise with Carnival. Any suggestions????? Are the vacation gods trying to tell me something?

Thanks

I'm uncertain what kind of advice you are looking for.

Are you looking for advice on what to do about your cancelled cruise and how to recover your gift card refund?

Are you looking for advice on which cruise/itinerary to consider in lieu of your cancelled one?

Are you looking for advice on what to expect from finally being able to plan a wedding and take a honeymoon with someone better than your ex?

Are you looking for advice on the plethora of circumstances you have experienced that the vacation gods may be penalizing you for?

With a little more specificity, some answers may come forth. Right now, it's a pretty wide open playing field.

How many weeks or months in advance did you book? I wonder if there is any law saying they can't change it to a charter less than x-number of days before the sale date? If the person has made arrangements like airfare, hotel before or after the cruise, etc., that could really be more than an inconvenience.

We are still ticked that they cancelled our 12 day Journeys cruise so they could go ahead and re-position the Magic early. We are still going on the Magic but now doing Disney World before the cruise.

Pick a new Itinerary and you should be fine. They did give us $100 for the "trouble"

Charters are usually contracted about a year in advance. Unless it is a company chartering a ship for employees as an awards thing (or something similar), other charters need time to advertise and sell the ship so it won't just happen a few weeks (or even months) before a cruise is supposed to take place.

Well, after my initial shock and disappointment wore off, I called the Card Service number from the Carnival Gift Card FAQ page. Though it did take a few times to unconfused me, I managed to understand that I was the one being rebated and will receive the balances rom the 3 gift cars in just 1 gift card which will be sent to me via FedEx.

Lately charters have been running about 9 to 12 months prior to sail date. I know of two charters recently which were done at the 9 month marker. One affected a LOT more people than the other one did. Not sure if Atlantis has actually inked their deals for their upcoming unannounced charters. They're holding back on them for some reason. Not sure if it's because of Anthem.
